Valve Cover Gasket

Has anyone replaced the oil valve cover gasket on the svx? Is it easy? Mine is leaking, and my mechanic is booked up for a few weeks. I'm losing a pint a week. I would like to do this myself. Any directions you can give?

Has this started all at once, or has it been gradual? I have never changed it, but I have heard that it is not hard at all. Maybe someone else that has will chime in here.

Passenger side is easy.
Driver side is a little tricky to get the cover out but can be done.

gasket

Wow, your getting alot of work done to your SVX lately. you could have come down to my shop and had both the flex plate and valve cover gaskets done at the same time for a little bit more money than you paid for the flex plate service.

Actually I did the driver side and didn't have much of a problem either. It just takes some wiggling to figure out the right orientation to get the cover to clear the cam gears. The biggest problem is getting at the bolts to loosen & tighten if you have big hands. I bought a 10mm ratcheting wrench, as there is no room for a regular socket.

FYI: Order new grommets for the bolts while you're at it, as the old ones will be too compressed to provide a good seal or the correct pressure on the cover.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REPLACE A VALVE COVER GASKET ON A 1992 SVX DRIVER SIDE? I'M HANDY, BUT I JUST DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO DO IT MYSELF.

A whole set of valve cover gaskets (both sides) cost's about $150

Dealer only option, and they'll tell you to few valve cover groments, so double check before ordering...
