Speed limiter.

The speed limiter is controlled by the TCU.

The Euro box does not have the no.1 sensor on the front diff, it is in the box along with the no.2 sensor.

The no.1 sensor is on the output shaft at the rear of the box, used to detect road speed.
The no.2 sensor is on the parking gear, that is connected to the front wheels. It is used to do the normal functions, checking for wheel spin, and as a back up to the no.1 for speedo use.

The speed control function is performed through the Torque control, which is held low.

Harvey.

Update?

What's new with your 4.44 swap Porter?

I've decided to "change gears" pun intended and do a 5 speed conversion.

I'm picking up an older Jetta this weekend to use as a daily driver while I build up the SVX and install a half cage.

Anybody want to buy a 4.444 JDM auto trans to use in an SVX? I know it will work, I just don't have the time to work out the electrical on it. I'm confident that any later VTD TCU will work on it.

$550 takes it! I paid $650.

Hell, how about $650 including the 4.444 R160 rear diff to cannibalize for the ring and pinion.

Well I've heard good things about the RA gears. I was gonna go with those before I decided on the 6 speed.

2001 or 2002 Forester 5MT. It's 4.11 and slightly tougher in design than the Impreza transmissions. I believe the 1st and 2nd gear are different.

I may also look around for an '04 Forester XT transmission. 4.444 w/ significantly reinforced casing and tougher gears sounds like a good way to go.

The Forester 5MT's are a bit stronger from what I've heard as well. What kind of $$$ would one out of an '01/'02 go for?

With a 4.11 Legacy rear diff in place, if I ever go the route of a 5MT swap, this would be the USDM trans I'd get.

Porter, did anyone take you up on this?
You said the gears were different than US 4.44, what are they?

Hey svxfiles, here is your new 4.44!

I'm curious about the price of that as well. The tranny in mine will need replacing in another year or so if I baby it but will need to be done sooner than later. Not sure if I could live with 4.44 gears but with a smooth clutch and all the slack taken out of the drive train I just might be able to live with it.
