IRIS and Saving gas
Finally got a hold of the Road & Track SVX guide. Read up on the IRIS System and am now more intriqued. I haven't looked at the throttle body setup so I decided to ask here. Would it be possible to override the IRIS system, and the Throttle body setup to shut down one bank of cylinders? I assume that if the throttle body is setup so both the valves are on the same rod you'd have to reengineer it so they're on each on one rod (maybe it'd be easier to just use two diffferent TB's from like a legacy or impreza or something, depends on how much space there is). So if it were possible to have air in the intake going only to one bank how detremintal would it be to only have 3 cyl's running? I assume if there's no air going into a cyl and no fuel either there wont be anyreal problem with it just compressing and what not, but would the intake stroke cause problems? Would it create enough vaccum to pull air through the TB or IRIS valve? What about the exhaust from one bank filling the other side? Is it possible for it to enter the cyl's? I assume not since the piston is pushing air out when the exhaust valve are open but who knows.
Anyway, just something I've been thinking about. |

Cadilac had the 468. GM is currently testing for the HD truck line. If you could keep stuff from working so theres nothing draining power(other than not having the cylinders) I don't see why not.
