So, I got pulled over last night...

And, it was the first time in a since I've owned the SVX. So, what was it for, you ask? Speeding? Nope. DUI maybe? No way. For my red plate covers.

Damn nice cop, though. "Sir, I just wanted to let you know that by Maine state law, your license plates must be visable at all times. You don't mind being pulled over, do you?" Now, how the hell do you answer that question?!? Anyway, he said all the Hondas have been putting them on in the past month or so, (I've had mine almost as long as I've had the car). He didn't give me a ticket, or even write me a warning, he just said I should think about taking them off. I read that as "Don't worry about 'em, I just wanted to check out your car...or see if your snot-hanging drunk".

Talking Re: So, I got pulled over last night...

Funny you should say that. The only time I've ever been pulled over in my life was when I used to own my SVT Lightning. The cop pulled me over b/c he thought it was the coolest looking truck ever! Seriously! It was weird - this grown-up man, with a donut gut and a gun checking out my ride...

I got pulled over for the exact same reason, in the SVX.

Ha

I used to be a cop in Singleton, NSW, Australia 'till I resigned 'cos I don't work with a**holes.

I was pulled over the other day by my old fellow cops. They said my car's 'ass end slid out around that corner'. I said 'no it didn't. The car is incapable of doing that in these conditions'...to cut a long story short, the a**hole said an infringement notice would be coming in the mail.

My responce: "a court summons will be coming in the mail for you, a**hole!", grabbed my licence, and sped off, leaving him in the dust.

Of cause, I wouldn't have done that if I dodn't know him...but I found it funny!!!

Paulie. No joke...

That's a difficult requirement to stick to.

Overqualified to be a professional A-hole? Become a cop instead!

In all fairness, most of the cops in my area are pretty straight-shooters. There are exceptions. Words of praise to the clean ones for carrying on despite the burden of a bad reputation from a few bad eggs. Dealing with that garbage would corrupt all but the strongest. You want to catch a cop off-guard, just be nice. They won't know what hit 'em.

Seriously, it works. I get stopped pretty often, but I almost never get a ticket. When I do actually get written up, it's usually, "Look man, I don't want to give you a ticket, but how am I gonna explain this to the RADAR man in the bushes and my Sargent running this speed trap if I don't? 'Gee boss, he was nice to me so I let him go!?' Just contest the stupid thing, I won't show."

Hey, I exaggerate, but that's the gist of it. I talked my way out of two tickets last Saturday just by "admitting without admitting" that I wasn't behaving as I should, by smiling, and by just being generally courteous.

I find it fun to be nice and exited to get pulled over, "Wow! was I really doing 85? I guess my speedos off a little more than I thought" And the niceness continues when they bring back the ticket, "Hay! Only $150? Thats not to bad, Thanks. Yeah I'll try to slow down a little, see ya" Vrooooooooom.

The cop:

It is true that cops can be nice. But, the steriotype holds for the most of the cop community. But I must admit I really only got along with them while I was one. I think the main reason these cops pulled me over was because one of them is VERY close family friends with my ex partner's family, who I am not on speaking terms with. Either that or they wanted to show me that even though I used to be a police officer, I can't act a fool. I guess it'll be shot back in their face though if they write that infringement...I'm looking forward to discrediting them in court if it comes to that.

Oh well. It was a spur of the moment action anyway. Funny non the less...

i got pulled over the other night for pouring out my can of ROOT beer on the side of the road. he thought it was a real bear and i had a heck of a time convincing him i wasnt drunk (i have cp and i walk with a bit of a gimp) but seeing as i got a dwi on my way home from the bar last month ( 2 pints of guinness is .08 FYI) and i am a college student i think it was warrented. the strangest part was that he had a british accent. it was freking me out. not every day you get pulled over by a bobby.

<grin> I got out of a ticket once by being myself. I was in my 93 Escort (may she rest in pieces) and got pulled over for 78 in a 65. Yeah I know... stoopid. Anyways, cop comes up to the window and asks me if I know how fast I was going. Being me I said no, so he told me. Well, I just sat there for a second looking dumbfounded until I finally said, "Wow, I'm impressed. I didn't know this piece of **** could go that fast."

Got out of the ticket because the cop couldn't keep a straight face

Glad you got off safely!

Different parts of Massachusetts have different kinds of cops. I was speeding through some backroads in my Impreza RS when a cop estimated me at 60 in a 40. There was an old couple walking on the side of the road while the cop was coming after me and he said he should throw me in jail for wreckless driving - the old people were about 10 feet off the road. He gave me a warning for the wreckless driving and a ticket for the 40 in a 60. Yeah, I deserved that one.

A few months later in a town about 20 miles away, I was pulled over for doing 40 in a 30. The cop was so nice and spoke gently I though he was going to sell me a book or invite me for tea. Let me go with a warning.

Hopefully I will make myself be more responsible in the SVX now.

There are always 2 things to keep in mind when you get pulled over: POP & FAT. POP = P!$$ Off Policeman, and FAT = Fail Attitude Test. Abbide by these rules, and unless your doing something really wrong, and you should be okay.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for a police officer that acts responsibly in their position, but the problem around he is that there is very little crime, which results in about 1/2 the cops getting a majorly inflated ego and abusing there powers. Example: There was this kid I went to school with, pretty much the biggest nerd in my class. So of course he was made fun of constantly, but honestly he brought it upon himself. I tried to be friends with him when I first met him, but it seemed like he wanted our friendship to self-destruct just by the way he acted. He treated me like he was my mother more than my mother did! So anyway, long story short, he's now the seargent in the sheriff's office here in Kennebec county. And what does he spend all his time doing? Hunting everyone that made fun of him in high school. And when he catches them, he throws the book, anything he can possibly charge them with. I haven't had a run in with him yet, but I'm sure I will, and I have no doubt he'll give me a ticket for the plates, and probably impound the SVX for them, too. And unfortunately, due to lack of anything better to do, stuff like this happens a lot here.

When I'm Waterville (where I got pulled over), it also doesn't help to have almost gotten into a fist fight with an officer there, but thats a different story.

On another note, Ryan, you planning on showing off your new SVX at the Hampton Beach meet July 29th?

Probably not, I'll be up at the Maine Forest Rally for the SCCA rally. Is this a pure SVX meet at Hampton Beach?
