Hail Protection Ideas

Weather is nasty here today and I was thinking about one great fear of mine... HAIL!

Has anyone come up with a way to protect their cars from large hail when you happen to park outside especially at work? I keep thinking of what I would do IF I knew if a huge hail storm was headed my way. What would I do at the very last moment? Unfortunately the parking garage is not an option here at work. Ideas? Has anyone think of this before?

Grab any towels you can find and cover the car in them? May help pad the blows a little bit.
Or if you can get to the car, go drive and find the nearest BIG tree to block the hail.

Drive to the nearest jiffy lube or similar and ask them to do the cheapest thing possible. At least this will get it inside.

we're talkin' America right? Sue your employer

I need a hot new paint job so I've been thinking about spilling some MacDonald's coffee on my SVX.

Build a cheap red-neck car port! All you'll need is four 2x4's and a board to use as a roof!

I did see a post a while back that said that he put cardboard on the hood and roof and then laid on the hood to protect it until he bled from the nose and ears. Well, something like that.

Any kind of Styrofoam panel would help. That is another material that might help.

I did hear that they were using a snow plow for the hail in Denver today.

All in all I would say that unless you have a carport you are going to get some damage. Is there anywhere nearby that you can rent some garage space?

I am surprised that your company doesnt have a garage if hail is so prevalent in the area.

I have seen some of those blow up car bubbles that you could but your car in. That would protect it.

oh, you wanted serious responses (sorry )

I would buy a car cover and find myself some carpet padding (or maybe that stuff they put under the laminate flooring), and sew (or otherwise attach - spray glue, etc.) that to the inside of the car cover - at a minimum so it would cover the top surfaces once put on the car.

Or get a foam pad and roll it out like it's red carpet!

And the towels have BIG LETTERS that spell the name of the hotel on them! You could have one of those carts full of towels, ready for instant responce!
