Flying the SVX!
Hay dad? Did you jump the SVX today?
No son I don’t do that any more. It was a mistake. Dad the SVX is not made to be jumped. Well I know that now! It is very obvious. The SVX should not be jumped. It is a heavy car. Dad, you know that bump is pretty big. My car isn’t as fast, dad, as the SVX and heck I get about two feet of air when I go over it. How high do you think you were in the SVX? I really don’t know. I could not see the ground from where I was sitting, only the tree tops were visible over the hood. How fast do you think you were going dad? My car usually hits it at about 30? I am really not sure son. Dad I think that you were doing about 60. That is what I estimate if you floored it after you turned onto the road. The SVX is a lot faster than my car. Well son I think I floored it before I took the corner and I think your estimate is close. Dad, why did you jump the SVX? I thought I would try it but I thought it was not going to go that high. Dad? What left the scrape marks in the road? The exhaust pipes up by the engine, son. There are two scrap marks dad. Yes son there are two exhaust pipes. But dad why are the marks so long? They must be two feet long each and side by side each other. Well son the way I figure it. The pipes kept the rest of the car off the ground, kind of held it up. Dad? Please don’t jump the SVX anymore. Okay? Okay son. Dad? How come the car rides rougher now? I think at least one of the rims is bent son. Do you have to get new rims again that are round? Yes son or find someone that fixes them. Did you blow out the struts dad? No the struts are fine. Why is the car making noises over bumps dad? Son, I think I may have broken something else. Dad, jump the mountain bike not the SVX okay? Yes son. |

So I guess you can now refer to your SVX as an off-road vehicle.
OK - you're grounded! Ron.

Can you do it one more time? WE WANT PICTURES!! That would be cool...
Makes you wonder how them Duke boys kept the General Lee running. Oh yeah, I guess they had Cooter around to help.

John, tsk, tsk, tsk. When I met you at Reading II, I had sized you up as a sensible, level headed adult that was beyond such juvenile adventures. I can see now that I was mistaken. However, I can somewhat understand. Sitting behind the wheel of the SVX takes about twenty years off our mind. Now, if we can figure out how to make it do the same with our bodies (and, no, John, you can not drive it fast enough to warp time -- no matter how high you jump it).
Rumble strips and "getting air." No, I won't EVER let you live either one of those down.

Randy,
Everything is relative. ( and not in the family sense.) You are only as old as you THINK you are. The SVX is my first fast car. I didn't have a Spitfire. I do believe that time in the car adds time to my life due to speed. How did you know? AND! There is nothing to live down when it is the truth. We all learn from each other mistakes. Life is what you make it. John |

Go for it! Life's too short. Just keep us up to date on your mistakes so we can all learn.

Whew
Well, at least I know I am not the ONLY one! My passengers got me two gifts after my/our flight. One was a sticker that said, "Not for aviation use" and the other one was a licence plate frame marked "Im not driving fast, Im flying low!" Then after I swore I would never do it again.......... Ooops. This time wipping out my exhaust gaskets at the front and rear of the "Y" pipe cat. Now just waiting to have money to cut it out and replace with actual dual exhuast
By using "that" style of thinking, possibly next year I could jump it again, wipe out the tranny and use that as an excuse to install a six-speed. Nah...will just wait for the inevitable tranny failure (again). Besides, must wait long enough for the WRX STi with the six-speed to have availible parts and part numbers. Ya know, at the track I race at, they have whats called the 100 MPH club. Its for any street vehicle that can to the 1/4 mile quick enough to pass the line at over 100 miles per hour. The trick is that it must be licenced, insured, street legal, DOT tires (no slicks), and through exhuast and mufflers (or glass packs). Should we start the SVX 3 foot+ club? |
