D or 3 and Tranny Failure
I don't recall this being done before and I thought it would be interesting. This thread touched on it, but I wanted to get a better layout of actual results.
Please only participate if you've put significant miles on one transmission. For instance, don't participate if you've just bought your car. Because there are lots of variables that can effect the accuracy of this poll, some other useful information to include might be: 1. How many miles your tranny lasted. 2. How much highway vs. city driving you do. 3. Anything else you think is useful. I'm not interested in how aggressively or conservatively you drive or how cold or warm your climate is. I'm just trying to determine if there's a significant relationship between transmission life and D or 3. I know these results won't be completely accurate, but hopefull we'll get some sort of idea. Thanks very much!!! Last edited by DavieGravy; 02-09-2004 at 11:03 PM. |

id like to add my variable. i think it is unique. i drive in D all the time, except for when i downshift for engine braking. i am believing there is approximately 30k to 40k on my tranny, 12k of which i have put on it.
around here city driving averages between 45 and 60, of which 70% of my travel time is on, the main roads with stoplights every few minutes. i drive EXTREMELY aggressively, except for when i dont. its a seasonal thing. (whoops should have read the whole post!) but you have to understand i push my car to the limit. i chose the first option.

Your point is well taken, but I don't think most people engine break enough to really make a significant difference. Although this might be a useful piece of information to add if you do. I appreciate your inclusion of it.

Talk to Porter... Every time I ride with him he puts it in 3 instead of D... As far as I know he is still on his first tranny....... Amazingly!!!!!

i purchased my claret with 108k miles. i've put on over 33k miles myself and have not had any transmission problems. unfortunately, i do not know my car's history. i can only assume, that transmission has been replaced one or more times. it appears it was done correctly the last time.
ps - i do combined driving.
