battery or alternator
Hey Fellers,
Last few days my '92 SVX has not been keeping the battery charged up. I haven't been driving it much but it is kept in a garage. When I jump it with my '97 OBW it starts right up. I drove it today thinking I would charge up the battery (going 85 on the curved entrance ramp onto I-75 is fun). When I got home the car started right back up, this was about 3:00 pm. Tonight about 8:30 pm the car wouldn't even turn over. The battery in an Interstate brand that was put on new in July of 2003 so it shouldn't be the battery. I'm guessing it might be the alternator. it has 153k miles on her and i don't know how old the existing alternator is? any suggestions? Tdog |

Maybe this sounds silly, but I just went through the same sort of problem a couple of months ago. Make certain your terminals are clean and the cable connection is good. Had my car to my mechanic and to the dealer twice each over the course of about three weeks because my car wouldn't start. Was really, really frustrating. My mechanic finally found the loose connection/corroded posts and then I guess he told off the service mgr at the dealership for not finding it.

Sounds like the battery to me but you can take it to any autoparts store and they will load test it for free to tell you what it is.

I have found that my batteries go belly up if I don't run the car very often, even with a battery conditioner. If it is driven every once in a while, they last fine. I am thinking I should disconnect them if I am not going to drive one for awhile.
