SIA article on the SVX

Seasons greetings to all ! Sorry I haven't been active on the site lately , I retired in September and have hardly been home since then .
The attached article just appeared in " Special Interest Automobile Magazine " , published by Hemmings . I don't agree with the comments on the infrared security system , as I have never had a problem with mine , however I know others have had . Nevertheless I don't think it was as widespread as the article suggests . Overall not a bad article and one to add to your files .

Regards :Alan.

and congratulations on your retirement!

Jeez, that article is dead on the money. I hope not too many people discover how cool our cars are. There aren't too many cars out there and it would drive the price up beyond what poor people (like me) could afford. Uhhh, wait a minute.... I wasn't poor before this car got ahold of me.

Yeah, I guess you can't argue to much with that.

Very good article. I love how they praise the svx where it's due but also point out its flaws. I think this is one of the more insightful looks into our cars i've seen in a while.

"Subaru managed to annoy most of its SVX buyers by including a standard infared security system that was maddeningly complicated to operate"

MADDENINGLY COMPLICATED?!

It's only one button, how maddeningly complicated can it be?!

I dunno man, I end up setting mine off quite often. Especially if i open the trunk with the key without first disarming the system. GRR!

You can hardly blame that on the car

As far as I know, SVX remote is an RF remote. Not an IR remote.

Also, it was my understanding that as of 1996, Subaru decided to switch all their cars to AWD so FWDs should only be available for 94 and 95. Apart from that, I think they got it pretty well.

Acctually I'm almost positive it was 98 that Subaru anouncced that all it's cars would only be availible with AWD.

As far as articles on the SVX go, this is one of the best. Thanks so much for posting it, Alan.

It gives me hope that the SVX will be respected in the future as an oddball collector's car and not just a failure.

In the US, it was RF. In europe and Japan it was IR using an eye on the drivers door handle.

1996 was the first year that all SVX's came standard with AWD.
