My SVX is leaking oil I think.

My svx just started about, 6 days ago leaking oil. When ever i stop, or go really slow i can see smoke that smeels like oil, and then when i look under the car there is some oil looking liquid on the exhust, passanger side. I cant tell were its coming from, but it seems like it may be coming from the valve cover gasket. How hard would it be to change it. Any prone oil problems with the SVX in that area. Thanks. Ive been checking the oil in the SVX daily to see if the oil level has been changing, I havent noticed any real change.

Okay, a couple of things to check:
1. is it oil or is it transmission fluid (used in the power steering)?
2. if it's ATF, then start checking to see if the high or low pressure power steering lines are leaking or if the O-ring in the PS pump is leaking
3. if it's oil, check to see where the bottom of the engine goes "dry" - i.e., where there is no longer any trace of oil on the bottom of the engine. This will give you a good idea of where to start looking for the leak(s).

How many miles do you have on your SVX?

went and checked, i felt around, no oil was on the head or block of the engine, but there was fluid, on the power stering, atf fluid. Were are the high, and low presure hoses. Ive been checking all the fluids, and they are all good. Its leaking very slowly, what ever it is.

PS HP hose runs back along the top of the head on Px side. Then goes down the back of the engine to the rack connection. Comes out ofthe rack and under the head to the cooling loop in front of the radiator and then up to the PS reservoir. There have been leaking HP hoses at the back of the engine, sprays out.

Yeah, if your power steering hoses are leaking, I'd fix that. My low pressure hose broke a few years ago, and I thought it was the diff, the car became so hard to drive.

Really, the SVX is so hard to drive without power steering, especially suddenly, that I would consider this a serious safety issue.
