Melted light housing

I noticed my left rear back light was out. When I tried to replace to this light it turned out the bulb melted out the light housing. Now i need to replace the whole back light housing,it but am wondering if it could possible be something electrical?

I had the same thing on mine. The result of the wrong wattage bulb. If you can't find an unmolested one I suggest you fabricate a holder with some epoxy. This is easier if you remove the whole lense assembly (1/4" drive socket 8mm) two bolts in the front are a little tricky to get at but if your patient you can remove with your fingers. Don't drop them into the Fender Abyss!

I would guess you caused a short circuit with an incorrect bulb base and during braking this heated up the bulb holder, the fuse not opening the circuit due to the short on time.

P.S. Mod Mania can prove an expensive affliction.

I put the led in for about 10 mins. When I realized it didn't work right, I took them out. I put normal bulbs back in and thats when it melted. Im thinking maybe the led bulb was the cause like you said. So you think I should replace the whole socket?? I don't want to buy a whole new light housing, only for it to melt again.

Only the socket can be involved in an electrical fault so this is all that requires replacing, unless you can a repair it some how. Presuming that it is only the socket assembly which has been damaged.
