Again I come, hat in hand to ask

Can somebody help me? Today while driving back from lunch I noticed that my speedometer was acting strange. While I accelerated it was fine. The second I let my foot of the gas or reach a steady speed it started bouncing and sometimes dropped right down to 0 while the car was still moving. What am I losing? The Tach is working fine.

Could it be a lose speedo cable?

I would suspect the speed sensor (I think #2). The SVX's speedometer doesn't use a mechanical cable. It's electric and uses the signal coming from (again, I think) speed sensor #2.

So I think you're going to need to have that replaced. I would guess that within a couple of days you're going to see the power light blinking, telling you that something's wrong.

Wait, wait ,wait, the speed sensor#2 is the one thats right on top of the tranny. If you look back from the diff level stick you should see a sensor looking thing with a three wire plug on top, that is the speed sensor that works the speedo. Speed sensor #1 controls the center diff and is located in the tranny around the center diff. If this is your problem all you need is a 17mm wrench and about 10mins.

I think PhastSVX was thinking of the speedo driven gear. That is inside the tranny. Just pray that isn't your problem.

Oh, I forgot . . . .

Here's speed sensor #2

my speedo did the same thing...after that it will stop working all together...the problem was exactly what Randy said...it is the gear that drives the driven gear. it is located inside the tranny....it is a little green gear if i remember correctly.

Well yeah, if it's the gear than that would suck. So glad I got rid of my auto tranny.

Yeah but for some reason I never hear about them stripping out. Correct me if I'mwrong but on the auto trannys they run off of the ring gear right? On the manuals they run off a gear on the main shaft.

i didn't have to pay to fix it.. it was a problem that happened the day after i took the car off the lot, so i made sure that they fixed it for free...so, i really don't know..it was one little piece, but the taking apart of the tranny is the scarey part
