Found a crack/rip in the seat! HELP!

Hey all,

I was cleaning my baby (1995 L) this afternoon and I noticed the vinyl part of my driver seat upholstery was cracked. I didn't notice any punctures or scrapes, it just seemed like it just cracked!

I have babied this car since new, garage kept and stored in the winters. I am the only owner and have only 50k original miles on it.

I don't know what to do, can you give any advice on the following:

1. How do I keep the crack/tear from getting any worse for the time being?

2. I want to get this fixed, do you know where I can take this? Do you know what my alternatives are besides having the entire seat reupholstered?

3. I live in the north Chicago suburbs, near Wisconsin. Any Chicagoland or Milwaukee area SVXers know of a reputable shop that fixes automotive upholstery?

Thanks!

Yoshi

armoral=bad if you were putting it on your vinyl stop, it makes it look good and protects it from dirt and stuff but it will drie it out over time..

i had a set of cloth seats i would've sold you but they're gone now

vinyl is picky, be careful what you use on it, it will dry up and crack like that, to keep it from getting worse, i'm not sure

i use Lexol Vinylex for vinyl and rubber stuff and it works pretty good.

i have a Vinyl/Leather repair kit that i used successfully on a dashboard of a previous car, but the crack was real small and it was black. don't know how it would work on a larger crack/tear. you have to mix the color to match, apply one of several textured sheets over it and heat it with the supplied little heat iron. they sell these kits in your big chain auto parts stores. might be worth a try.
