Weird Noise? Help!

When my svx is in drive going down the road a weird vibrating noise occurs at 1500 rpm but then goes away after about 1800 rpm. Could it be the awd clutch? I dont have 4 jack stands to jack my car up on to pin point the noise but it sounds like it is coming from the rear section of my car. This noise only happens when my car is in drive. I have a 1994 svx LSi. Any help would be appreciated.

Same problem

Most likely it is coming from your exhaust. Check to see if your heat shields are rattling first. My car was making a noise similar to what you described so I took it to Midas. Their solution was to put hose clamps around the two heat sheilds on the individual pipes and to remove the heat shield where they join. If they are fine than the resonator in the exhaust may have gone. This can be removed and replaced with a straight pipe for less than $40. Do a search for resonator and you should find several posts about this topic. Check these first as I'm sure anything else that might cause the noise would definately not be cheap.

I had what you describe and it got worse until I could not stand it anymore. I put the straight pipe in and hated the sound so I ordered a resonator from SVX Motorsports. It is a giant glass pack, but it does the job.
