Question 94 SVX-L FWD Gas Mileage

I just purchased a 94 FWD SVX, and was wondering what kind of mileage to expect, better than my 92 AWD SVX? Which gets about 20 MPG in town and 26 MPG Hwy.
Any ideal?
Thanks,

And then there were 2

Ah, Huck, so now you have obtained your 2nd SVX. Things sound like they're getting serious.

As far as fuel economy, I get a reliable 27 or so on the highway, probably about 19 or 20 if I'm just driving around town.

Milage

Hey Bill
Should've thought to ask you to start with, you can check out my newest one in my personal locker, It's not exactly perfect, but it does seem to be mechanically sound.
Thanks for the response,

my fwd SVX gets about.....

17-20 mpg in the city and 25-30 on the highway. i have never gotten better than those ranges. it will be interesting to hear your perspective on the differences between the awd and the fwd.

Before K&N Filter, I got 18 in the city and 21 HWay. With K&N, I get around 20 in the city and about 25 HWay

Try the filter if you want

Don't get all cheesed off...

But why do youse guys even care about the mileage? You bought the heaviest car Subaru ever built and it has the largest engine that Subaru ever put in a production car, it has all the bells and whistles most of us would ever need, and it is just a pure pleasure to drive any distance. Yeah, I guess my beater '84 gl 4wd gets better mileage, so does a geo metro, but I bought my SVX because It's a beautiful, comfortable, fast, and pretty darned unique car, not because of mileage.

Insurance is spendy, gas is outrageous, but when you own a car isn't that part of the formula for owning one? I mean you do have to put gas in it to make it go, and you do have to have insurance to be a responsible driver right?

Oh well, maybe it's just me, when the gas gauge gets towards the E, I just go and fill it up...and I have never checked mileage.

Re: Don't get all cheesed off...

Maybe you don't care about MPG because you only get to drive yours rarely and don't need to put much gas in it.

Seriously though, some of us use it as our daily driver, and it CAN add up. For example, on many weeks I can put on 500+ city miles a week.

I don't think we're griping or getting cheezed off about it. I think that all of us when we bought the car we were not expecting 30 or 40 MPG. But comparing fuel mileage can also shed light on the condition of the car, an indication that something else is wrong. I think even getting 19-21MPG city for such a car is fantastic. In comparision to my '00 Legacy, it only does 10% better, at a cost of 65hp.

I'm getting 15-17MPG city, but that's because of a shot O2 sensor.

My 2 cents. (which, in fuel, will get me from my garage to the end of my driveway )

My 94 FWD will get almost 30 cruising at 80, and in the low 20's in town. Average is 25-27, and I am doing 80+% highway miles.

Last car was a Celica, which always averaged 30 mpg in my usual driving. I could divide the trip meter miles by 30 and know when the gas pump would stop almost exactly. What interests me is that the SVX gas mileage is not much <<worse>>, but the SVX has about 100 more hp, an automatic where my celica had a 5-speed, a good or 1000 more lbs. weight, and all the peformance and doodads.

When I bought my SVX the salesman said be careful, it will spoil you, and it has.

Nicely said.

That's not very nice Cecilia! I get to drive the SVX whenever the gas gauge is on E, or the ashtray needs emptied, or when I need to give it a bath at the do it yerself car wash.

You will be henceforth known to me as Cecilia BTW, and you can blame Larry iii of the elongated forehead syndrome for that!

Re: Re: Re: Don't get all cheesed off...

I've been told I do a real mean "Cecilia" impression.

Picture someone skinny enough that it's hard to buy clothes with my waist size on this continent. And with a height of 5'8", I can tease most girls with "I've got a body to die for. If I was a woman."

Just you wait til the '02 LaFayette meet. I'm going to scare you silly.
