Front End Vibration

Most of my driving is highway, and I remember a time when I thought my SVX had the smoothest ride around. But over the past many months, I get this front end vibration. When I slow down to around 35 mph, it seems like I'm driving on a cobblestone road, its so bad (it doesnt do this All the time, though). I thought it might be that the highway wasnt smooth, but it happens at various places, and I look at other cars when I have this problem and they dont seem to be bouncing up and down like mine. When I'm going around 70 mph, its not that bad, although I still feel some front end vibration. I've had my tires balanced, and a front end alignment. The tires and wheels are relatively new. The brake disks are relatively new as are the pads. I jacked up the front the car and tried to shake each front wheel side to side and up and down, and they didnt shake. I looked over the front suspension and nothing seems loose. So what could it be? Front axle maybe? I miss the way this use to drive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Larry

Re: Front End Vibration

Have you rotated the tires front to back? If not please do and let us know if anything changes. It sounds to me like a uniformity problem with the tires.

Re: Front End Vibration

My shaking problem went away after changing my struts and changing my oil (it was low a quart). I'm not sure which one solved the problem, but check your oil first.

Re: Front End Vibration

I'm pretty good about changing and checking the oil, and it looks fine. And the struts and springs are new. I installed the motorsport springs along with the Koni inserts. The problem existed before I did this install, and still exists. It really seems suspension related. I keep thinking its wheel balancing, so i bought a bubble balancer (hasnt yet arrived) so I can check. Will let you know if its the balancing.

Re: Front End Vibration

You mentioned you had a front wheel alignment, is your car AWD? If it is you need to get a four wheel alignment.

Re: Front End Vibration

Did you change the strut mounts too? Have your rims checked if they are bent.

Re: Front End Vibration

Re: Front End Vibration

hi go get your wheels computer balanced ,bubble balancing is only a single plane balance ,most front end parts dont cause wheel shake ,of course a bad axle would but id go the cheap way and balance

Re: Front End Vibration

I had the tires balanced by a place that used the Hunter GSP9700 and the problem is still there. They also looked at the suspension and didnt see anything obviously wrong. I'm wondering if it could be the tires (they're relatively new) or the front axle.

Have you done this yet?

Is the vibration only when braking through about 35 or also when cruising and accelerating through that speed?

Re: Front End Vibration

Yes, I've rotated the tires front to back. And when I swapped out the OEM struts for the Koni inserts, the front mounts really looked pretty good.
