Hurt at work

Well Wednesday at work we got real slow in the body shop so they make me bust up some tile over in the car service building. I thought ok this will be easy, yea right they wanted me to smash tile with a sledge hammer on a space about 30'x40'. I said f*** this so they rented me a damn jackhammer like I know how to use one. I then started busting the stupid stuff and had a piece of ceramic tile come up and cut me in my right arm about 2in back from my wrist. It's at least a 1/4in deep and as soon as it cut I lost all feeling in my thumb, pointer and middle finger. I'm guessing I cut a nerve as the cut is directly above the muscle for those fingers. Basically it's been 3 days and they're still tingly from my thumb which is the worst and gradually get less to my middle finger. It pisses me off because I may never get feeling in those fingers ever again and they will do nothing but pay a doctor who is going to tell me that exact thing. I can't even get workers comp for that. Hopefully it goes away by Tuesday when I go back to work or i'm going to flip out.

Re: Hurt at work

That is too bad. It usually takes a while, but the feeling usually comes back ok. It is probably a nerve that was cut like you mentioned, and it takes some time for that to heal. That doesn't make it any less serious.

Re: Hurt at work

When I was in college I interned at a sign shop. I cut my hand very badly and I still don't have full feeling in my right thumb.

Expect the worst. Hope for the best.

Re: Hurt at work

I have serveral "numb" areas and parts from various injuries and wounds over the years. Never any workman's comp, but I have managed to survive very nicely for 67 years. Feeling does come back in most cases, though.

Life is soooooo much fun.

Re: Hurt at work

You were at work. You should get some form of worker's comp or something, call a lawyer, I think you have grounds for a lawsuit...

Re: Hurt at work

I agree with Hondasucks,

As for the numbness, it will come back eventually. When I had my jaw surgery they had to cut through the nerves and they said that my chin would be numb for a few months and a slight possibility I would never get feeling back. I think it took about 8 months for the feeling to fully return. That was weird though, I had to be careful as I couldn't feel my lower lip and would end up biting it pretty bad from time to time...
