Still am losing power.

So today I spend about three hours looking into what could make my svx lose power across the boards. First I thought it may have something to doing with the key switch. Nope that wasn't it at all. Then I Thought it be the the plugs that connect to the firewall from the wheel. Nope that wasn't it either. Then on to The fusable link. That has some corrosion on the end connecters. It om's out fine, Think of replacing it anyway. Anybody have this problem before. Help Please...

A bit of history would be helpful in diagnosing this issue.

Re: Still am losing power.

Thanks for the replies,,

So it start with the engine felling like it was losing a little power from time to time. The it became more frequent. One day it jump to the next level when the light, radio, windows, and etc. There seems to be a connection with the car being bumped around. Like when you were a kid and playing with the light switch turning it off and on. If the engine is over more then 2000 rpm it tends to stablize for the most part. Then was one day I smelled wirers or plastic burning. The trouble is. If it was in the cab of the car I wouldn't been able to tell because it could of very well been in the engine area and got sucked into the venting. This I know because I ran a test with starting fluid. I have searched the car all over. The only area that I found any wires discolored were at the fan circuit board beside the main fuse control panel under the hood.

Actually a bad alternator can overcharge and blow up a lot of electrical components at the same time, in a second.
Time will tell!

Re: Still am losing power.

I'm having that trouble. I just don't know what could make the car shut down. I'm going to look into the alt asap. I will be at the car in the am to look into the problem once again. Thanks for the replies again.

Re: Still am losing power.

On my XT6 I had a hellish nightmare of charging system issues, which sound exactly like your case.

My final solution was to make reinforced fuseble links for it and rebuild the plug for the voltage regulator on the back of the alternator, then make a ground wire from the engine fusebox directly to the battery for redundancy.

That made it bullet proof. Might start inspecting plugs 1st off.

Re: Still am losing power.

Thanks for your help. I did find a ground wire to be the cause of the short. It is working great now. If I can only think ground next time instead of power.
