No, THIS is why everybody's so pissed.............

(I am not propogating the myth of the $73.00/hr UAW wage.)

Quote:
The NYT [New York Times] reports that employees at the Big Three automakers actually make closer to $55 an hour. While GM, Ford and Chrysler do spend about $73 for every hour a unionized worker puts in, not all that money gets dumped in workers’ paychecks.
The $55 an hour comes from a combination of two things. One is $40 an hour in cash payments of wages, overtime and vacation pay. The second is health insurance and pensions, or fringe benefits, totaling about $15 an hour. The $55 an hour figure is a little more than twice as much as the typical American worker makes, benefits included.
Honda and Toyota’s nonunionized workers make about $45 an hour in comparison, the NYT reports.
I could live quite well on HALF of what they make. Who's going to bail ME out?

Edit: Here's a little more info about Ford employees' benefits..........

Quote:
The Ford contract is generous relative to most American workers, with 16 holidays and 4 weeks of paid vacation

Ford’s pension plan is more generous than typical for private industry at ~½ pay after 30 years
Not bad money for doing nothing. That's whare the rest of the $73.00/hr goes (a lot of it, anyway).
