To me it sounds like some plugged injectors. I had the same symptoms once. I fixed it for less than $3.00 What did I do, you ask? Marvel Mystery Oil. Use it @ the rate on the bottle (in the fuel tank) and you should see results in half of a tank! It is THE BEST fuel system cleaner I have ever used!

I vote for the IAC. This is a common issue in many vehicles with higher mileage. Can't wait to figure out what it is!

Warmed Up Stalling Corrected!
After my 97 LSI warmed up, it ran fine, but at idle it was a bit rough, nothing terrible, but when you put it in park, the idle was hunting all over the place then finally stalling 100% of the time. If you kept it in gear, it did not stall, but hunted a bit. No codes thrown either.
Well, much discussion about the MAF, so I took it out and cleaned it good with some Brake Parts Cleaner (Carb Cleaner would probably work as well) reinstalled, went for a ride, and problem still existed! Damn! Frustrated, as it now began to snow a bit, I took apart/off all the intake hoses and did a thorough cleaning of the throttle intake body and butterfly valves with Carb cleaner (both ports). With everything apart the car does not run, so I put it all back together and after a few tries and flooring it, it finally started, and blew out black junk out the exhaust. Time for a ride, and guess what, a perfect idle and no more stalling!! Two days later, we're back to good as new! A can of carb cleaner can be your friend for this problem! Good luck!!! |

The preceding post by gschabel, together with the above, shows what happens if solvent can be persuaded to enter the IAC and free up the internal rotary solenoid valve.
