check engine light at idle goes out with throttle

i FINALLY have the beastie up and running (WOOHOOOOO!!!)

4.44's are great...zero to losing license stupidly easy in this thing........ahem
lol

my question is:

the check engine light is on at idle
but goes out with even 1/8 " of throttle pedal input and stays out til the engine is at idle again (zero throttle input)

i'm thinking maybe gummed up air bleeds (or bypasses or whatever subaru wants to call them) in the throttle butterflies?

or...........? an engine vacuum situation? all vacuum lines/fittings appear in good repair ( i know........appearances can be deceiving...!!

when starting the car from cold, the idle is rather higher than i am used to in an injected car (1600'ish rpms) and then comes down over the next few minutes as car warms up...it acts just like a choked carb'd car from the bad ole days.....
is this normal?

ps......the power light blinks the requisite 16 times at start-up, but i havent had time to check code(s) yet.........

Sounds like the early stages of a bad o2 sensor.

I hope you've pulled both the ECU and TCU codes by now.
