To me this doesn't seem worthy to be listed as a mod, and any performance increase or real effect is negligible.
But it also doesn't hurt.
The only reason I still have mine bypassed is because I can't get the damn brass thingy out, and I am far to preoccupied with other failing elements of my vehicle.

Yay! Glad I found this thread... Time to resurrect it... Ok has anyone seen any type of beneficial anything from doing this 'mod' ? I live in Arizona so I'm pretty sure i could run this all year round, except maybe when I go up into the mountains in the winter. But my question is, by re-routing the coolant, does the car run a scotche cooler or accelerate smoother, anything at all? Or was someone just bored one day and realized this was something you could do for fun...

thanks all

I tried it and then put it back to stock a short time later. I didn't notice any difference with this mod.

I noticed a difference in the way it runs and accelerates off the line. It seems to be smoother with less hesitation. I've seen dyno runs from cars that have seen up to 8 HP from bypassing the coolant to the TB.

ahhh very good to know... Thanks Bud

Anyone have any idea of at what the ouside temperature would have to be before it starts causing problems with this mod in place? I would assume somewhere under freezing point.. 32 degrees... maybe like at 20 degrees or so?

Depends on how fast you drive.

I've tested this out in sub zero weather and it has not affected my car at all but for one instance on the highway.
I was cruising along about 70 (road was dry), temps were just a little below zero, I let off the gas, gas did not let off for a second.

I imagine driving a good distance could very well freeze your TB open but radiating engine heat will keep it clear most of the time.

---
Ummmmm.... I did not have phenolic spacers at the time.
So right meow my TB is more likely to freeze and less likely to thaw when frozen. I will find out in the coming months what effects are to be had.

I don't know what the tempature has to be in order for frost and ice to vuild up. This car and this heated TB is all new to me but I know in small planes they have carb heaters and the carbs can ice up in tempatures as high as 50 degrees, but I think that's because of pressure gains and losses. associated within the carb and the altitude. Good question.

I don't run mine when the temp drops below 40 degrees. Due to the pressures and so on in the intake the throttle bodies can begin to freeze at temps above 32 degrees. I got on the throttle one night when it was between 35 and 40 degrees out and the throttle didn't let go for long enough to worry me when I let off.

this mod is about as effective as the "improved throttle response" throttle cable adjustment "mod".

Leave Chike and his winter "mod" alone!
