ECU Module

Is the $220 ECU module/stage 1 http://www.smallcar.com/svx/ecutune.htm
really necessary? I am looking for ways to get better performance (as long as I fix my electrical problem) especially in low end. Anyone familiar with this product or one like it?

Get one. It is the best chip every made for the SVX. With many happy users including me. It takes a couple days before you get the full performance out of the chip, But you will feel the difference.

It depends on how far you want to go. For a Stock SVX the Stage I chip is great. If you plan on generating over 250HP then you'll want the Stage II in order to overcome MAF limitations.

there is an "ECUtune Stage One Reviews" thread. Not trying to be an ass, just trying to point you to a really good resource.

Get one! You'll like it!

Performance makes a big difference after a couple of days of learning, and mileage is not hurt (maybe even helped a little, I got my high of 28mpg over winter break). When I'm feeling cheap I hit the switch and fill er' up with 87. Running on 87 theres not a noticeable performance increase vs stock, but when you're in college every penny counts...

alright, im gonna get one...my gas mileage kinda blows, and I try to take the highway for everything thats logical. I have a nasty hole in my exhaust and that probably to blame. Anyways, I'll get one and check it out

It's not "really necessary", but it's a nice modification to do . . .

I'm not sure if you've stated what year your car is, the Ecutune module will only work on 92-95 SVXi.

I personally would buy directly from www.ecutune.com, even if the price is the same. That way more money goes directly to the people who stepped up to support our cars! Also, Ecutune has an active member (longassname) here on our forums.

I don't think SmallCar cares that much about us since they put our engines into Vanagons and part out the cars. No SmallCar member on our forums as far I can see.

My $.02.

Dan
