totaled

Although you lost one great car, you should be able to replace it with another one. Don't forget, you'll get the high side replacement costs as you can prove the SVX is worth plenty... this site is really good proof of that.

USAA is the company that totalled my Nissan. I can tell you that if they are totalling it with $4,600 in damage you're gonna get less than that. As I said earlier, if damage is more than value, you get value minus salvage fee ($50) when you do a salvage retainer.

Of course you can still make some more money parting it out. The engine and tranny will bring a nice chunk of change.

I can hear the vultures in the distance.....they should be circling your dead suby soon

You mentioned early-on that it had a bad pull to the left. It's bent. For that matter, with unibody construction, any crumpling of the quarter panels constitutes a "bent frame."

Wish you luck settling-up.

Put me on the list of people that might buy it as a parts car, I could come up and get it....if it were priced right....

Given the nature of the collision (hit from rear, rather than wheel into obstruction), I suspect you're right. If the wheel had hit a curb or something forcefully, we'd still have the possbility that just a suspension component or the subframe are bent. Since the hit was throguh the body, I think that the problem is far more serious.

Part the car out if you like, but I wouldn't put it back on the road.

Now, I had a Toyota pickup and I bent the frame in an accident. I got it fixed up and drove that truck for another five years or so. I even took it offroad...a lot. But that was different - it was a body-on-frame vehicle, and the damage didn't exceed the value of the vehicle.

If you bought the car back and fixed it, you'd just be throwing good money after bad. Maybe you could get the car back on the road and looking nice. But it would cost you more than you're going to get from the insurance company and it'd have a salvage title.

I'm terribly sorry about what happened. At least nobody was hurt.

No, repairing the car and continuing to drive it is no longer an option to me. I have briefly searched the classifieds to look for another SVX, but likely I will end up with something newer (more sensible??) for daily use. If I want to go for a fun drive, I still have the Porsche.

You are very correct. I am very lucky that I always wear my seatbelt. I am very lucky the guy wasn't driving an H2 or some other monstrosity that could have rolled on top of my car. When I start to get super angry about this whole situation, I just remind myself that I can still walk. 2 years ago I had to teach myself how to walk again. Remembering that nightmare serves to bring me back down to earth.

I've had frame damage on my SVX (insurance paid CAD$7000 to fix it). To me the car drives fine now and the only thing that bugs me is that the doors don't line up exactly with the rear quarters.

I've listed the car over in the classifieds forum now. Please contact me with questions or if you are interested to buy.

Thanks
