Wheel shakes a bit going over bumps.

A strange phenomenon has been occurring lately where my steering wheel shakes from side to side, rapidly when going over pumps in the road. The effect is greater at faster speeds. It's similar to the type of shaking one gets when the tire balance is out of whack, but on a smooth road the car is perfectly firm. Is this something to be concerned about?

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure something wasn't about to break.

I was thinking tie rod ends as well because I have this nasty clunking noise coming from the front. I think I'll have it looked at.
