Question Outer Axle Boot? URGENT!!!

I just started to do my front bearings (noise similar to rears) and swap rotors when I noticed the answer to why my left front rim has had streaks of what appeared to be grease streaked out on it(?) for a while now (1 to 2 months)?

ANS: The outer axle boot is completely ripped in two circumferentially, leaking grease which is splattering in a radial manner, esp. on underside of strut assembly base.

I think there is adequate grease for this not to have ruined the axle end (?), but thought that I should ask about QUICKEST CHEAP LOCATION FOR AXLE BOOT PART (available Pep Boys, Autozone, Kragen, or Napa?)and WHETHER I NEED TO CHECK FOR ANY SPECIAL WEAR CAUSED BY THIS or COULD SOME PREVIOUS (LIKE BEARING OR UNIVERSAL JOINT) FAILURE HAVE PREDISPOSED THE BOOT TO FAILURE?

PLEASE HELP! THANKS!!

P.S. Is there a good temporary repair to maintain remaining grease in boot until I can replace boot/etc? I thought I'd wrap the boot with plastic and "seal" with nylon straps?

Just get a new axle. Once the boot has ripped, there will be contaminates in the grease, and it will slowly 'destroy' that joint. Putting in a new axle isn't THAT difficult either, plus you'd have to take it out in order to put on a new boot anyway.

Yeah just do the axle.....I noticed this RIGHT after i bought my SVX and was very upset........but then I did some searching and a new axle isn't very expensive considering $300 at the stealership.

You can get it real cheap online at like carpart.com (or carparts.com .......one of thosE).
