Time to Change My Brake Pads and Rotors

Hey All,

I need to replace the brakes on my baby, She's reached 52K and the OE brake pads have reached the end of their service life.

I've never done a brake job myself but I am pretty mechanically inclined and have heard that brake jobs on Subies are pretty easy. I figure instead of paying the Midas man the $200-$300 I can put that money into some quality pads and cross drilled rotors.

So, my question is does anybody have a step by step how to guide to do this? If so can you tell me where I can find it?

Secondly, does anyone know a good place to buy rotors and pads at a fair price?

Thanks,

Yoshi

I think that the Chilton's manual details brake work well enough. You're right - it is very easy on recent Subaru models.

For rotors, go here:

www.raceconcepts.net

Call him and tell him you're with the SVX group. It'll be 150 for the front pair, and 130 for the rear pair..... good prices. Get slotted and nickel plated, dimple drilling is just ricey and can cause them to crack.

For a how to,

You're welcome.

The Brakes how to only contains trouble code listing. Check out this for a step-by-step SVX brake installation:

http://www.ryanmacdonald.com/car/howto/brake/brake.html

If the old rotors won't come off, you can use a little WD-40 and let them sit until it loosens them up. Then give them a few gental taps until they come off. The brakes I replaced were aftermarket ones that didn't have the bolt hole to use to loosen the old rotors.

Cheers,
Matt
