Speaker Question
Would three way in door speakers matched with the dash tweets enhance, inhibit, or have no effect on the sound?

Is that even possible?

since there would be two tweeters on each side it would be brighter sounding if that's what you seek. I suggest a PM Trevor or other stereo/electronics guru on the forum. I think if you put a small resistor in series with the dash tweeters you could turn down the brightness, and still maintain the image enhancement that a dash mounted tweeter gives, i.e., the soundstage being up high at eye level.
BTW, this applies to any full range speaker in the door, one/two/or three-way. The factory was a one-way full range (no crossover for the door speaker). |

I'm guessing you're referring to a standard 3-way coaxial speaker and not a 3-way component set.
If you were to use a 3-way component set it would work lovely to simply mount the tweets from the components into the stock dash location(s). But that would be obvious, so I'm going to take it that you mean a 3-way coax where the tweet and mid are part of the speaker itself. In that case, it wouldn't hurt one bit. What I would do is test the system with JUST the tweeters in the dash going and no other speaker. Turn the volume up. Did it distort? If so, then you've got clipping from the tweets that will have bad effects on your system quality. Throw Power Resistors in series with the stock tweeters to attenuate the sound, decreasing the sound output and distortion. Try again, then hook up the 3-way speakers.......................or just hook everything up and it shouldn't matter.....I'm sure you'd be happy either way unless you're a real SQ guy. Good luck
