brake line replacement

I just bought a set of SS brake lines from motorsport-svx. They look great. I bet they would look even better on the SVX.

I need help on this one. I'm not the kind of guy who needs the flight attendant to demonstrate how to use the seatbelt every time I fly, but when I hear that you have to "bleed the brakes", I think that I need to cut or stab something first.

Does anybody have a how-to on replacing the brake lines? There is nothing right now in the how-to locker. Is it even possible with basic tools (sockets, screwdrivers, etc)? I would like to do this myself, but messing with the brakes when you don't know what you are doing can be dangerous... unless you have an expendable person willing to take the test drive.

Thanks,
Matt

Did you see the thread about the simple way to bleed the brakes with Speed Bleeder? They are fittings that you put in the calipers and they allow the brake fluid to bleed out, but not allow the air back in. You still do one at a time, but one person could do it quite easily. I will add the link to the place that sells them. Good luck. I will try to get a how to into the locker.

thanks, Earl. The speedbleeder looks cool. Not that pricey either ($31 including shipping for a set of 4). Although, I'm hoping to keep the cost down to the price of some brake fluid (and the SS lines) as I just started working again. I wasn't planning on buying them, but the sale was too good to pass up.

I know that Dayle sold several sets of brake lines. He even had some pics of the lines installed, but it wasn't really a step-by-step explaination. So hopefully someone (with a digital camera) can document the process when they get around to installing them. It would be tremendously helpful.

Cheers,
Matt

Very easy....

I installed ss lines on all four corners and it was extremely easy. Make sure you've got a brake line wrench to loosen the connections - you definitely don't want to mangle the hard line the ss line attaches to. The wrench looks like a box end with a slot cut out of it.
There is a clip that needs to be removed where the flex line attaches to the hard line (it inserts around a grove around the hard coupler at the end of the flex line) - it pulls straight out. Only do one wheel at a time. This gives you one wheel to reference back to if you forget the way the flex line routes around behind the caliper.
Once you've got the ss line installed it is just a matter of using the normal bleeding procedure to get the air out of the lines - do a search on "brake bleeding" - there are several threads that describe the process (remember to start at the ABS box under the hood!).
Good luck.
-Bill
