Fog Lights

I bought some pilot fog lights from the local auto parts store today. I finished mounting them and my car wouldnt start. I dont know if its because of where I grounded them or maybe my battery cant handle the load. The lights came with 2 grounds. 1 located near the switch, and 1 after the relay. I grounded the one for the switch on a bolt near the diagnostic cables, and the one after the relay on a bolt near the lisence plate holder under the bumper. When I try to start the car, the lights dim and theres just a click coming from the starter. I even disconnected the fog lights completely, and I still get the same results. Anybody have any expierence with fog lights????

Can't speak to the wiring since I can't see it, but to me it sounds as if your battery has picked this moment in time to give it up (could be just needing a charge - have you tried to jump it?).

Ok, now my car will not start at all. Just a click, engine dosent turn over at all. All the lights and radio work, but when I try to start the car, the lights dim and the engine will not turn over. I brought my battery to autozone and they checked the battery and the battery was fine. Could it be my starter? It only started doing this when I attempted to put new fog lights on my car. The lights even worked to. I have no clue what to do. Any suggestions?

Did you say when you tired to start it the lights dimmed? If so, turn off all of the electronics and lights and try it then. They may be drawing too much power. I don't know, but you may have tried that already.

Yeah, take earls advice, if not you have the same problem i have i think. my car starts when it wants to. I think it might be you need a new starter like i do. Its a click, then sometimes do you hear like almost a suction noise?

Anybody know where the starter is located? I want to try taping it with a wrench.

Yes I know where it is.
It's at the back of the engine, drive side (USA left side), pretty close to the brake fluid reservoir.

Is the starter motor pre-engaged type on the SVX ?? If yes then sounds like the pilot solenoid is not switching the starter motor on.

What should happen when you turn the key is the pilot solenoid pushes the starter pinion onto the ring gear of the torque convertor or flywheel, and makes a switch to complete the circuit to run the starter motor. If the solenoid doesn't throw the pinion far enough to engage the switch, or the switch has failed you get the click of the pilot solenoid but no rotation.

When you say the lights dim do you mean slightly or do they almost extingush ?? If slight dim then they could be the solenoid drawing a bit more current in an attempt to make full travel. If they dim a lot, could be the starter motor is trying to turn but is prevented from doing so for some reason, like a worn or tight bearing ??

Starter *looks* easy to get to, and should be easy to change, maybe a service exchange part is available at resonable cost !!

The pilot solenoid is part of the starter motor, if the starter looks like a big cylinder with a little cylinder piggy-backed on top with the wires connected to the little one, the little one is the solenoid, the big one is the motor.

If you still have the trouble, email me at svx@stars-gazer.com and I will hook up with you and see what's wrong. I have done more than enough lights on the SVXes. You name it, I've probably done it.
