Power on Demand,

I'd like your comments on the play in the ninth inning of the White Sox/Angels
game the other night. I looked at all the replays and I don't think that the ball ever hit the ground. I think that the home plate umpire needs to go back to umpire scholl to learn how to properly signal strikes and outs. I also think that catcher should have stayed with the play and thrown the ball to first base or tagged the guy out. We can always discuss this and other controversial plays in person at Tom's SVX meet on long Beach Island on Dec. 17th.

Ive looked at that play a million times and I still cant figure it out although i kinda think it was in the glove and never hit the ground. Whatever the case may be the umpire confused the heck out of everyone and didnt signal the right call. Ive played catcher before and when the ball hits the ground and the batter swings and misses he will scream that a catch wasn't made or he willl scream an out. This umpire should have done so. I really think the angels got screwed out of a possible win.

I'm still rooting for the Cardinals, but if it ends up White Sox - Astros, go Sox. Let's see another winless streak fall. That'll give the Cubs hope.

lol that would actually make cubs fans resort to suicide...they will realize that they are so unlucky and that they have no shot because other clubs are winning and and and.....

yeah sorry thats the negative philly fan coming out in me

Power on,

I was a catcher on my high school team and your absolutely correct.

Actually, I'd like an Astros-White Sox series. It will be fun to see terrific pitching on both sides.
Having said that, the scores of all the games will probably wind up 11-12, since I predicted that the Cardinals would win it all.

I'd love to see a pitching duel of a world series. I am 21 years old but I am more of an old school sports guy than anyone I know. I'm someone who appreciates sports history even more than the current stuff. Its funny, I could tell some guys more about phillies history than when they were alive...and their at least 20 yrs older . When I was a catcher this past summer I loved it....being right in the middle of everything and taking all the abuse. Its something i cherish...i played short stop too but that was too much of a glamour position .

Chicago over Houston/St. Louis in 6. There you go. Go Sox. I think that phase makes Larry's skin crawl! And having suicidal Cubs fans is nothing new.

Tigershark,

The White Sox won the pennant in 1959, beating out the Yankees. They were a pretty good hitting tem with Ted Kluzuski and Nellie Fox.
However, Dodger pitching stopped them cold.
Dodger pitchers were Don Drysdale and Johnny Podres. Plus, I think there was a young Dodger pitcher named Sandy Kofax.

Good Luck.

Personally I think it will be the Astros vs. the White Sox.
On paper the Sox should win. But on paper the Cardinals should have cleaned Houstons clock.
That's why they play the games.
As a wise old sage once said,"It ain't over 'till it's over."

I agree, which is why I'm actually excited about a World Series in quite some time. My comment to you was the mere mention of the words Go Sox. Oh well, I'd like to see them get a win to erase the blacksox memory. Then it will tick off Cub fans even more!

ahh Johnny Podres now thats a familiar name. He was the greatest pitching coach in phillies history....every pitcher loved him...he was curt schillings mentor in philadelphia. He's still with the organization working with our future ace gavin Floyd...he's trying to help him get back on track.

How painful is it that Bill Giles of the Phillies hands the ASStros the trophy

Power-on-D,

Don't feel bad. Here's something that will cheer you up. In Sundays Phila Inquirer in the sports section there is a nice story about Johnny Podres winning game 7 of the 1955 World Series for the Brooklyn Dodgers
('Dem Bums'). I'll save it for yor if you can't get it online.

I'm looking forward to this world series. The pitching should be terrific.

My gut wants the White Sox to win because they haven't won in soooooo long. However, my heart wants the Astros to win so that Andy Petite can finally show George Steinbrenner that he was wrong for all those years. Plus, I like roger 'The Rocket.'

My head tells me that the White Sox should win in 6-7 games.
I also picked the Cardinals to win it all. That's why I'm typing this on my computer at work at 6:30 AM and I'm not managing the Yankees.
