Woohoo!

I had a blast, thanks for having me Paul. Tell your lovely wife I said thank you, I hope to see you all again soon.

That SVX is WILD without the weight! Man, it's a totally different car after a 700lb diet... I swear it just breaks traction when you roll into the gas in the lower gears... you WILL need the Falkens or something similar to keep it under control. It's going to be an oversteering autocross banshee, I can't wait to see it in action.

Thanks again!

Here you go, some tire options!

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...odeIndex=31450

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Eagle+F1+GS-D3

Falken Azenis Sport

in a weird size... 215/45R16. It would work and would actually lower the gearing somewhat for quicker acceleration. Might be worth an experiment. I doubt you'd lose much in terms of lateral grip, as the Falkens are notoriously wide for their "rated" size.

Pirelli Pzero Nero

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=PZero+Nero

I would look very carefully at both the Goodyear F1s and the Pirellis... both are good tires for a very reasonable price, and come in exactly the right size.... of course if you switch to another wheel there are all kinds of options.

A donated broken trans that had the front diff parts we needed got our 4EAT running again. We will be spending the majority of our budget on the suspension. I have a 5 speed, and will do the conversion someday, but maybe not to this car. Depends if it survives the challenge! Maybe the 5 speed will end up in my driver!

You should try to get the front and rear diff from a Legacy to put in the SVX, the lower gears would help on the Auto-X, and the Dragstrip....since your swapping the front diff anyway

Tire sizes

Hmmm...

The 215/45-16 has 5% smaller circumference (faster acceleration), 10% shorter sidewall (less sidewall flex), but it is 5% narrower (less tread)

Interesting!

differential

Yeah, the legacy diffs would be great fun. Unfortunately, we are totally maxed on our budget. We actually spent more on the suspension then we did on the car. (But worth it!!) We have to liquidate a few leftover parts, or we won't qualify.

Also, the front diff was completed quite a while ago.

Maybe after the Grassroots Motorsports challenge we'll consider a few more changes to make it an autoxing monster, when we are no longer limited by the budget.

Hey- here's a pic of Porter still looking somewhat respectable, just before the strut gave him a bath.
