The stock SVX hood weighs 48#s

The stock looking fiberglass hood weighs 19.5#s And costs $350.00 plus whatever shipping is.

A race only, lift off, fiberglass hood, held on with four hood pins, weighs about 13#s! and costs $250 plus shipping.

And they will make a carbon fibre hood, for racing only, BUT IT IS NOT SHOW QUALITY, they build it for light weight, and strength. It would be hundreds more.

The REAL weight savings would be in fiberglass doors.
But they would be for race only, not for street use, and expensive.
Shipping to Austraila is prohibative/costly.

Pictures are in my locker.

The doors, the seats, the trunk (even though it is FG), the metal bumpers... everything is just d*mn heavy in the SVX

Remember, that's why so many people have totaled their SVXi and walked away with minor injuries, (not counting the heartbreak of losing their SVX . . . ).

Ding Ding Ding!!!! we have a winner!!!! This is the exact reason why SVXi are so safe and parents should be compfortable about having their teenager drive one. The SVX is a very sfae car but when you go ahead and try to lighten the beast, it will loose it's safety factor and become more and more of a race car

Thats why Nick and Dave will only get safety upgrades, like Stainless Steel Lines, better headlights, brake upgrades and such.
However ther MUCH older, and a little wiser Dad can drive a race car/SVX!!

I wonder if using JDM SVX bumper beams would net much of a lose in weight? I KNow the Impreza loses like 40 pounds if you replace both, and thats quite a large change in the polor movment of interia since there sticking so far out.

They have been steering/controlling/driving cars/trikes/go carts/motorcycles since they were two years old.
Every story they ever heard started out with "OK it was 1977, and I was driving a 1967, 429, C6 Mercury Parklane convertible with duals with a crossover, Buick springs, and Monroe P500 shocks....."
I have always had better tires, lights, suspention, than the factories have provided to the masses, and have been saved by said upgrades.
The SVXi ARE safe, strong tanks in their stock form, and thats why my sons have them for their first cars.
If my perfect Angels screw up, like I did, I want them to be here for an
@ss whoopin!
And I am teaching them that the ONLY PLACE TO RACE IS THE TRACK!
So, now you know the rest of the story.

Putting a Redtop battery in the trunk would help f/r weight bias, and not compromise safety.
The front stock SVX bumper is a serious piece of welded steel, and your best friend in a crash!
You loose more weight by replacing your drivers seat with a non-powered one.

And this from a guy with a 2#, rather than a 4# stock glove box door!
