Front Speaker adapter plate ?
Forum seems to be deathly quiet !
I just replaced the 9 by 5's on the rear shelf with a pair of Pioneers, although when I finally got to the originals they were in good condition, no deterioration at all. So next job is the front doors, again with a pair of 6.5" Pioneers couresy of ebay. And again the originals are in good condition, but will be changed anyway. So I need to make/buy an adapter plate to take the normal speaker 4 bolt fixings to the doors 3 screw fixing. Before I get the router out and cover myself in mdf dust I thought I might ask the collective wisdom if they are available at a reasonable price in the UK ? I did wonder if anyone has used an internet e-machine shop to get this sort of thing made from machined plastic ? The door skin off and can stay like it until after xmas now. Merry Xmas Arthur Portsmouth UK |

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
I just screwed my new speakers into the factory speaker mount.
I made new holes with self drilling screws to attach the new speakers. That is a 6.5". It fits right onto the original mount. |

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
Thanks for that, I did wonder if I could cannibalise the existing frame.
I have a pair of Pioneer 6.5" units, I'll line them up and see if they will fit. The back of the frame will need cutting out of course. |

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
I can see the old speaker basket is spot welded to the mount, so I can drill out the welds.
This will leave a hole of 135mm, the basket on the replacemeet needs at least 142mm so its not going to fit. The fixing screws would barely have enough flange to screw into either. The Pioneer TS-E1770 I have are marked as 17cm units and are 165mm max diameter. |

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
That to bad, my 6.5 dropped right into the factory holders once I gutted out the stock speaker.
I just took out the speaker part and it mounted right on the raised ring: Even fit on backwards, then we realized it was screwed into the wrong side: Sorry it doesn't work with yours. My stereo thread: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=54516 |

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
I believe yours are 6 1/4 6 1/2 are bigger
hmm never mind a quick search on kappa 60cs shows they are 6.5, I put some 6.5 MB Quarts in as well and they were slightly larger then the stock bracket. I just cut the bracket slightly and modified it to fit. Just looked at your install thread, great job, one question where did you tie in power for the fans? I would expect a switched source Possibly even turns on with the amps. Last edited by 92 SVX; 12-24-2012 at 12:47 PM. |

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
The Kappa are 16cm
http://www.nengun.com/unknown/infini...pa-60cs-153157 The Pioneers I have are 17cm, thats the problem. I am in no rush (I have had the car 13 years !) and the standard ones are not damaged at all, so I might watch out for some 16cm units on ebay. The pair I have are from a set of four (two 2 way and two 3 way) that I took out of one of my cars a few years ago. I can sell them as a full set. I picked up the 9 by 5's on ebay that I fitted on the rear shelf. I also have a 12" Sub in the boot. |

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
Yep, its power is off the fuse block the amp is on, so they come when the remote turn on powers up the amp.

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
Agreed. I have some 6.5" speakers I'm trying to install and the mounting holes on them are farther out than the lip of the OEM mount. (Will post pic soon to show what I mean)

Re: Front Speaker adapter plate ?
I finally started my stereo replacement project. Swapped out the speakers for a set of Alpine speakers. 6.5"s in the front (model Alpine SPS - 610). They came with a spacer/bracket that replaced the oem bracket perfectly. I had hoped to resuse the stock brackets, but the speakers were just a tad too large as described in this thread. I lucked out that the spacer/bracket came with the speaker in the box. The 3 holes lined up perfectly with the holes in the door.
