Wrong on both counts. He had it open very quickly and he had other problems besides gas.

I wonder what his reserve is. Just listed it yesterday, Oct 9.
Did anyone from here contact him with an offer of help? Does he even know this place exists?

I listed the car on Ebay

Hey, I'm Paul Malm's son, Zach. I listed the car on EBay, and someone there e-mailed me about this page. We kinda listed it as a joke. He's really angry and sad and the whole deal. The insurance company isn't going to pay much if he turns it over to them, which is why we're trying out the eBay thing. He's already looking for another comparable SVX. If you do want to contact him, send me an e-mail through the Ebay listing, and when I talk to him today I'll let him know, and will forward your mail to him, so he can respond. Or maybe he'll come on this board, I dunno. He's not too e-savvy.

It is at $1,000 now and the reserve has not been met. I guess a piece of history is not cheap. Oh, I just remembered that the screwdriver is included.

Earl, the gentlemanly thing to do would be to swap one of your hoard.....er, herd, even-up to Mr. Malm for this piece of history. As it's still drivable, you could scrawl "ouches" all over the dents. It would be the "hit" of all your northwest meets. Soooo much more interesting than those boring "straight" models you tend to cling to.

Ron.

Ah....geez, just make it all go away. My poor blue SVX

Thanks to you all for the commiseration. It really has been the pits since last Tues. I had the blue SVX that was stolen in Kirkland. When I bought it three years ago I looked for 6 months to find it. I drove to Tacoma, the San Juans and then up to Vancouver BC to find the right one. I finally bought the one in Vancouver and imported it. I had to have the instruments changed from Kilometers to Miles etc.
I drive back and forth to Whistler with it all the time...rather I drove back and forth to Whistler etc. Last Tuesday my son had his 65 Mustang parked in my parking place so I parked on the road and went to a neighbor's to help with some condo business. She, my neighbor, mentioned that there was a police chase with helicopters and everything. I finished my conversation with her and went back to my place next door. I told my wife about the police chase. She said, "Oh, that must be what I just saw. A couple police cars just went by with lights flashing, chasing a blue car...looked kinda like yours" Hahaha. I grabbed some things I was taking to Whistler the next day and headed out to my car. Instead of my car, there were 2 police vehicles and an empty space where my car was...oh geeez.
They told me about a half hour later that I could pick it up...it was drivable....barely. I creaked and clunked my way home. The car was just thoroughly thrashed. Before, I had only one bad door ding in the entire body - that's it...argh. IT was a GREAT car. I really miss it. Now, there is hardly an inch without some kind of scratch or dent. I thought I smelled the scent of something overheated too...who knows. I was just sick. I just left it in the parking stall and went up to Whistler for a few days. I just didn't want to have to see it in the shape it was in. Today it was picked up and I said goodbye, though I still expect to sell what remains if someone wants it.

I have been looking for another one but now they are even more rare than 3 years ago when I first looked. I may have to fly somewhere (only considering west coast) and drive it back . Even then I do not know about affording another. My insurance, usually very good and helpful AMICA, has been ridiculous with this. They judged the value on one comp...ONE COMP!!! When I sent them website pages for others they would not budge. I went to a car lot that had the only SVX advertised in the Seattle Times. It was a 92 - 2 years older, with only a few less miles. When I got there they said it had just been sold for $4900. I don't know what kind of shape it was in. AMICA has offered me $3279 after I pay the $500 deductible. I told them to call Don, the fellow at this lot to confirm the vehicle stats and the sales price and the claim rep said that they would only use comps of the same year. I told her that was ridiculous on a rare car like this. She said that the state insurance commissioner insisted on this. I called the insurance commissioner's office and they said that is not true. Essentially insurance companies must comp the same year or newer AS A PROTECTION to clients, so they will not undervalue them by using an older vehicle. BUT the insurance company has the option in a case like this to agree with the client and use an earlier year if it might be applicable to determining a fair market value. Well...the AMICA person was not cooperative at all.

So anyway, yesterday my son Zach suggested selling it on Ebay. I poo-pooed the whole thing, saying I had had enough drama and this whole thing was already too painful. But he said "What have you got to lose? Maybe you will be able to make up the difference between what the insurance company will give you and what is necessary to buy another one." So, that is the reason why it is on ebay. I have no idea what to expect...maybe nothing. I really would just like to find another SVX and turn the page...Inside Edition and other TV media people have called. I am not interested. I do not want the drama or even slihght notoriety. I just want my SVX. If you have any ideas, please give a shout. Otherwise, you all know what a great car it is. thanks again for your condolences...appreciate it. - Paul
