Valve Cover -"Vent"
I finally broke down and decided to replace my Valve cover gasket (and spark plugs while I was in the area).
Called Advanced Auto to check on the Valve cover Gasket set…no listing. Called Sun Auto (Import car part specialist) and …no listing. So I called Liberty Subaru and ordered the Gaskets (6 pieces) and the bolt grommets (20) Totaled over $90 . I thought this absurdly high, but ordered them anyway. Well, I finally got around to pulling off the valve covers, and after cleaning them up, and replacing the spark plugs (easier to do with the valve covers off J ), I started putting them back on…and Liberty Subaru only sent (12) bolt grommets , so its Sunday and the only 2 parts places open are Advanced Auto and Auto Zone, so I go to Advanced Auto...they can’t even get the bolt grommets, so I go to Auto Zone (which I don’t use much) and they can’t get the bolt grommets either…but they CAN get the Valve cover Gasket set, which includes the bolt grommets for…$12.99 …..I can’t believe I paid over 90 bucks for the gaskets…and didn’t even get what I paid for, and could have gotten them for $12.99 !!!! So now I still don’t have the bolt grommets, but will try Sun Auto tomorrow and then if they can’t get them I’ll order the set from Auto Zone, as the (8) bolt grommets from Subaru will cost $16…what a crock And I STILL don’t have my front end binding issue worked out yet. Well I’m done venting for now…..

I just looked at their website and it is supposed to be a FelPro gasket set. FelPro makes some of the best gaskets in the aftermarket, I just find it odd that nobody else has mentioned having used/finding these before. Our parts database at work checks all suppliers' catalogs and, while nothing's perfect, especially me, I could swear I have searched through it before for these parts. It certainly sounds too good to be true. I'll be ordering a set tomorrow to see exactly what shows up.

One point of my post was to let everybody know they WERE available at Auto Zone for $12.99.
As for how long, I didn't keep track very well, but probably 3 hours, would get it, although I spent a pretty good amout of time cleaning up the valve covers, and the area around them. As for the beer, I don't drink, but you could always offer up a steak dinner

Well I just called the parts house and had them look it up. Nobody uses books anymore, what they did is look up the last time they sold that part # and looked to see what car it fit - GEO Tracker (Toyota). Just a little off.... Now the question becomes 'is it an entry error or a way to get you down to the store to buy something else?' You know there always has to be a conspiracy theory attached.

Hi Huck,
I really thought that this post was about the "vent on the valve cover. Meaning the place the hose attaches to the top of the cover. |
