SVX did not get the stares......

....because they were staring at all the Ferrari's!!!

I thought a funnish intro....no claps, the sound of silence...ah well, I'll keep my day job!

Yesterday I hastened the demise of the 4EAT and had smoke pouring from the front wheels since I took my beloved (Cassie had to work...on the weekend....agh!!) out on a drive day with the Ferrari Club of NSW (don't ask how I wrangled into this!!!) and I think that

a) the SVX has a lot more grunt than people realised!!
b) the brakes are, in my opinion, a joke!!!

The drive was about 200km through southern Sydney to Kiama on the coast, lots of very fast sweepers, hills, bends, stunning scenery and Ferrari's!!! There was, from memory:

F360 x 2
F360 spider x1
F355 x 3
F348 Challenge
About 6 328's, a few 308GT4's, a turbo PRB Clubman, a Porsche 968, 911 Turbo (mid 80's), 525 bimmer and some lunatic Irishman in an SVX!!!

Needless to say on the straights, I merely saw Maranello's finest disappear amidst the most glorious sound of a banshee wail...but in the bends, I was really really surprised how well the SVX kept up *three cheers for awd!* I had a good run with the 968 and on one bend, managed to keep on the outside lane (left sweeper, uphill) at something well over the national limit of 110kph, with the 968 just ahead of me on the inside, and a local in his hotted up Commodore who gave chase....he backed off...as I sat, clutching the steering wheel, brow furrowed, praying to the Alcyone God of VTD, to hold her on line.....*grinning like a loon* - I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!

Bu the brakes....suffice to say that standing, as hard as a I could, on the stop pedal, as the numbers SLOWLY drop from 110...to 100...to 90, on a bushland mountain road, an F355 hard on the anchors in front of me...and stopping, the gap narrowing, my heart racing, and clouds of smoke filling the rear vision mirror (much to the disgust of a 328 pilot who thought he'd fried his clutch...then thought that I had locked it up - heathen....SVX has ABS!) as I wondered whether I could buy the wreck of the 355 after my insurance company has disemboweled me - all in all, methinks a group buy on 4 piston AP racing 14 inch brake kits are in order!!

*Note to self: perhaps that was not what FHI had in mine with what owners would think of doing!*

People were appearing by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere with cameras....some took photos of my car, the ones that did not had 4EAT remnants hurled at them!!!

Still, it was nice to have a 360 pilot say "you were in the SVX. Nice car, very luxurious, they go pretty hard!"

I will scan and upload photos and apparently there is some video footage that I will try and obtain!

*My poor SVX now will rest till I get a tranny cooler!!!*

James

Get some Raceconcepts Rotors and metalmaster brake pads. Worked quite well for me shutting down the SVX from 130->60 also the SS lines help too.

Enjoyed your adventure, James. Can't wait to hear more. Just don't start running around in your SVX, waving Ferrari fliers. That'd be bad form.

...finally get's his first SVX, has it not more than a month and goes out to run with a pack of Ferraris no less.... the man has no fear! On the SVX Summer Tour thorugh the Washington Cascade mtn range, I was tempted to go run with a Bimmer 330i w/ Deutsche numberplates that passed our group; since this was a social event, I thought better of it and, out of respect for my fellows on the tour (to say nothing of my insurance rates), stayed the course and behaved myself. (Darn!) James, get the cooler stuck in and have another go! We'll all be in the right seat for you!

Thumbs up Sportscar meeting!

There has been a sportscar meeting in our little town last weekend!

WOW!

All kinds of ferraris and some exotic/rare cars like Lamborghini Miura, DeTomaso Pantera.

I liked the Lamborghini Countach and Diablo best.

Maybe I should have parked my SVX next to such a car.
I think I would have gotten stares, cause Ferraris aren't that rare here like my SVX
