front half shafts
has anyone bought and used the front half shafts from Autozone, Napa, or Advance Auto parts? and do they work because i cant afford $400 for a new one from Subaru.
also is $158 to put it in a good price? thanks

Search "advance axle" or something, they have been discussed before.
Cliffnotes is that they work and are cheap with a lifetime warranty. The right and left are identical. I had one put in for $50 once, and have done them myself since then. C/V axles are easy, any shop should be able to handle it. Just inform them that there is a spring pin holding the axle to the splined shaft sticking out of the trans. They will need to hammer it out with a punch and put it back (technically they aren't supposed to re-use it but it's not a big deal). DON'T let them overtorque the axle nut, b/c wheel bearing... Also you'll need a new axle nut so that they can get a proper torque spec on it (not sure how important that actually is).

Funny thing I bought one from Advanced Auto . Rebuilt was like $50.00 but you had to return the core (the old one and you got charged $30.00 until you did ) CORE CHARGE or $65.00 for a new one and you throw away the core . I asked if they would give me $30.00 for the core even if I bought the new one. NO!!! Fit perfect worked fine . Been on fro 6 months and i did a few full power shifts with it .

I've had poor luck with the advance auto axle fit. Seems they are just a bit too short and the inner CV is a the end of it's travel. Yields some clicking in full power on tight turns. Haven't blown one up yet though....and they are very inexpensive.

The advance one I got didn't have a nut on it as far as I remember. It was the same length as the one it replaced, at least as far as I could tell.

Did U buy the new or rebuilt? It was a piece of cake to change using the instructions on here , 20 min. tops . I remember back in the day a guy refused to bu an old Loyal I had because it need a new boot .

You need to get a new 94 FWD axle from Advance auto. $70 and they're actually beefier than the AWD front axle version. That is the new price, no core. Unless things have changed.
