Question Has anyone ever tried...

using there SVX alarm remotes on other Subarus? Apparently they transmit at 318Mhz, the frequency designated to Subaru by the FCC. What I'd like to do is use my SVX alarm remotes on another Subaru's alarm reciever unit, one that I would buy at a dealership for less than a SVX unit costs. Of course you would have to "teach" the new unit to respond to the SVX remotes, but if all Subaru alarm receivers receive at 318Mhz then I would expect that this would work. I'd like to do this because my SVX came with brand new remotes but no alarm unit.

Thanks,

CurlyKicker

PS. The easiest way to rectify this is to install an aftermarket keyless entry system for $75. But who really wants to carry around an aftermarket remote!??!

Well, if the aftermarket remote had a button that did remote start I wouldn't mind "lugging it around"

Curly,

318MHz wasn't assigned to Subaru, but was approved for use by a electronics firm (along with many others) that manufactured the remotes and alarm system for the SVX. If I remember correctly, the electronics firm is located in the southern US.

Whether other Subaru's use it I don't know. What I do know for sure is that the 2000 Legacy's and I think 98 and up Foresters/Imprezas use an Alpine system in the 410MHz range.

I've been meaning to take my garage door opener, which I can set the frequency to the 315's range, and see whether it will work or not. I've also used another transmitter (off which I car I forgot) that was in the 310's range that the SVX picked up intermittently under programming.

When I get back into Toronto on Monday (I MISS my SVX, haven't driven/seen it since October 1), I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

It looks like I'm going to be buying the remote control module from someone parting out their SVX. Either that or I'll buy one from the Subaru parts & dismantling web site. Or I might just go up and see them- they're local.

Thanks for all of your suggestions fellas,

Curly
