Steering/Tire Wander
Has anyone else experienced what I'll call tire wander on highway driving where the steering wheel seems to just pull hard in either direction when encountering less than perfectly smooth pavement or on roads that are "truck-rutted". I have experienced this with both my SVX's and have asked my mechanic who says it's just the nature of a 225mm tire. I just went touring through NJ this weekend and noticed it especially badly on Route 78 near Newark and on the Turnpike. Any thoughts/solutions/similar experiences.

Both my SVXs do that. I just learned to deal with it.

Yeah, I get that too. I think just about any car will do that when driving rutted roads. Its a natural response of the steering design for the wheel to want to climb up the ruts if the wheel is not centered in the rut. My Toyota pickup does the same thing. So did my VW bug.

i had problems like that REALLY bad on my last set of tires (some badly cupped fulda extremos from the previous owner's neglect of tire balancing). i got yoko avs db's and a 4-wheel alignment and it drives like a new car now, with much less noticable steering wheel jerk.

Tires
Most likely your tires. My Mustang does it real bad. I think it's called trameling. It's so bad that if you let go of the steering wheel, it will wander pretty bad. The SVX insn't too bad.

This hits close to recent experience. Tire pressure to low, try it higher, 40/36 F/R and or TOE out of adjustment, wide. Also free play in the steering wheel should be less than 5/8" if I got it right or not much.

YES!!!
My yokos find every stinking rut in the Anchorage road system. It's like fighting a sailboat in the gusty winds.

I found that tire pressure has a lot to do with it as well.
I settled for a happy medium between the SVX recommendation and the tire manufacturers recommendation. It seemed to help.
