Re: The thingy scratching my window
Mine are glued on too, hence why I didn't bother to remove them when I did this.

Re: The thingy scratching my window
Yeah, here's an update, my pads were stolen so I was unable to install them.
edit: Never mind! I just found them when I was looking for my parts catalog. Someone stole my parts catalog!

Re: The thingy scratching my window
I did this little project this morning. Took an hour for both doors, i.e. eight scratchers...
i bought 8 pcs of the outer ones. These are glued on the door sheet metal with double sided tape. I lifted the outer weather strip a little - you have to take the two plastic screws and fittings off first, then lift the trip to the outside of the door - protect the paint with something - see photo. Then there's enough space to chisel the old ones off w/o taking the glass out. I used a small flat screw driver and tapped that with a small hammer. Then pressed the clips out. The same parts can be used on the inside too. Not difficult at all and now the doors shut without a horrible noise even with the windows down.... and the scratching has stopped too - hopefully. The outer ones were totally busted. /T |

Re: The thingy scratching my window
Well done! Did your outside weatherstrips unscrew easily? I tried to unscrew those screws to do what you did and they turned but didn't come out for me. Was there a trick for yours or did they just unscrew like they're supposed to do?

Naturally, you must make sure the clip (nut) does not rotate with the screw - I had to keep one still with my finger nail. If you do not succed you may try gently inserting a very small clock smith screw driver between the clip and the screw and gently aid the screw outward while turning it with a screw driver. I've had to do this with other similar clips. Also, as you may have noticed from the photo I used a flat screw driver rather than a cross head.... if you select just the correct blade size you do not need to press it at all.... I did not try the JIS screw drivers on these (see my other post). They may work better than phillips. Good luck, /T |
