There are two developments that people keep sending to Congress.

First, pedal-position sensative brakelights. This one has lots of people supporting it. With it, your brake lights get brighter as you apply more pressure to the brake pedal. I'm sure they'll work some sort of flashing into a "panic stop" mode.

Second, with less support, is FRONT brakelights. The idea being that you should know when the car headed your way is really slowing down or not. Since the turn signals often use the two-filament bulbs anyway, it's just a matter of wiring them like the taillights. My friend's Firebird has them, and it is a freaky sight to behold.
Ah yes. Another case of the government trying to make us less responsible. If they would just legislate autopilots in all alutomobiles, to be controlled by government agencies using "joysticks" we could be relieved of driving altogether and just go along for the ride. I personally feel the current brake light configuration is fine, albiet difficult to see if one is driving with one's head firmly inserted in their anal cavity. Is it really that difficult to allow a reasonable cushion between you and the driver ahead of you? I should think not (although there are those idiots who think that your "cushion" is meant for them to pull into, even though it's obviously not large enough for their vehicle -- sorry, one of my pet peeves). Drive responsibly or suffer the consequences of your actions. That's what I say.
