Re: The infamous IRIS Valve
Quote:
It won't work at other rpms as it has to work with the Inertia speed of the air, which is a fixed speed due to the mass of the air. Thats why it is opened at 4000 as the speed that inertia flow can increase the flow is too slow, from 4000 up. It opens to allow the inlet to move to a Resonate system as it works best as the rpm goes up from 4000. Harvey.

Re: The infamous IRIS Valve
Good Pict's, but he has got the info from the Road & Track description, that got it wrong. The Inertia system is when the valve is closed,at low speed. The resonate system is when the valve is open, at higher speed. This is my description of the Inertia system operation. http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1141 This is the Resonate system. http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=29170 Harvey.

Re: The infamous IRIS Valve
people remove it because they are lazy or cheap its there for a reason usally what happens is that it gets so dry it snaps in half. mine did that its a 20 dollar part without it the engine is rough. i have 185000 miles on my ***** and cant even feel if the engine is running at a stop light. its worth fixing little things like that especlly that easy to fix
