Lambo doors

I know there have been plenty of threads in the past on this subject. I wanted to start a new one for some of the newbies and to kind of start some new input from those of us who are still around.

As far as I know MR Pwrlite is the only one still on the forums that has done them. I would like to do this mod, and I think there are a few of you out there that would as well. To give those of you who haven't followed the progress here are a few other threads that are relevant.

Unfortunately none of rmjensen's pictures work and he's no where to be found anymore.

If Mr. Pwrlite would like to write a how to that'd be awesome but I wanna see how many people out there plan on doing this mod and if someone want's to start working on it, it'd be cool if you guys wanna post some progress I hope this can be a thread to post that.

My personal choice what I'm planning on using is the GT Factory Kit.

Re: Lambo doors

rmjjensen totaled his car in an accident about two years ago. Since then, he has dropped off the forum.

Re: Lambo doors

I've actually thought about doing this to my car too. There's just something about the shape of the cabin and doors that makes me think it would work really well. How much does a kit like that run and how hard is it to install?

It works, from what I hear it's difficult. So it's not for the faint of heart. but after the issues I had with my 5spd swap, I'm up for anything!

Re: Lambo doors

I did at the time wanted to fit some lambo doors to my SVX, but I kinder changed my mind when my mates had quite a few probs pop up. They fitted lambo doors to there honda. Had a few probs like not being able to get the doors to seal at all. Also when they sat above 90kms per hour the doors would like move or vibrate etc.
Then last thing to happen was the Gas Strut broke so they just sold the kit on.

Well, you asked for input and I gotta say that I don't like them and never have. I wouldn't spend the money to mount them on any car that I owned. Poorly constructed and poorly operating...why bother? I'd spend the money on plenty of other things before dropping it on this.

I also get the feeling that many others here don't like them as you got 12 replies and 157 views of your thread. From my experience here, most folks don't add their input if it's not something they like.

Re: Lambo doors

Alright didn't mean to step on toes it just seemed like back in 05 it was something a lot of people on here were interested in. But I guess everyone who was into them changed their minds.

In responce to the statement that it blocks the opening, there are different types of kits some go 45 degrees up some 90 and others are capable of 130 degrees.

If I were to do it I would do it so that it did not obstruct entrance to the vehicle. But judging by all the negative comments I won't post anymore on this until I decide to do this. If and when I decide to do it ill post a how to for those few of us who like the mod.

Re: Lambo doors

Personally, I think Lambo doors look great on the SVX. They really fit the "exotic" look of the car (provided they are installed for a "factory" fit, of course).

I think that Lambo doors look retarded on Hondas for the same reason; like you're making a commuter car into something it's not.

Re: Lambo doors

Hey, dont get me wrong.

I think Lambos on the SVX would look AWESOME. and I think they fit the car.

But the big problem is fit and finish.

I have seen those 2 cars previously listed w/ their doors closed. They DONT shut all the way. Major flaw.

On many of the kits that go out 4-6 inchs then up, I have often seen that there is nothing that stops you from smashing the latch into the door at a diagonal. If any one gets in your car that DOESNT know how to do it 'just right' you get your latch all dented and beat.

(it would be like having no stoppers on the overextention. Could you imagine if you could simply open ur door until it was crumpling into your fender? sooner or later, it would happen.)

IF there was a way to fit them and have a factory appearence, and function, I would do it. honest.

tell me there is an SVX done that way, and I will interview the owner. if Im convinced, I'll FLY to the owner, and examine the car. if it was as claimed, I would buy that kit, and have who ever put on THEIR kit, install on MY car.

Anything else would be a hack and slash operation. Nothing that some one who loved their car would do.

I think this view on lambos for SVX is doubled by ALOT of people on this site, but I wont speak for them.

James
