Impreza 2.2l L models:

Automatic transmission gear ratios:
1st - 2.785
2nd - 1.545
3rd - 1.000
4th - 0.694
reverse - 2.272
final drive ratio - 4.11

Manual transmission gear ratios:
1st - 3.545
2nd - 1.947
3rd - 1.366
4th - 0.972
5th - 0.780
reverse - 3.333
final drive ratio - 3.90

Impreza 2.5RS models:

Automatic transmission gear ratios:
1st - 3.027
2nd - 1.619
3rd - 1.000
4th - 0.694
reverse - 2.272
final drive ratio - 4.44

Manual transmission gear ratios:
1st - 3.545
2nd - 2.111
3rd - 1.448
4th - 1.088
5th - 0.780
reverse - 3.333
final drive ratio - 4.11

The 2002 2.5RS (new body) 5MT uses slightly different gear ratios:

1st - 3.45
2nd - 2.06
3rd - 1.45
4th - 1.09
5th - 0.78
axle ratio (final drive) - 4.11

WRX 2.0l models:

Automatic transmission gear ratios:
1st - 2.785
2nd - 1.545
3rd - 1.000
4th - 0.694
reverse - 2.272
final drive ratio - 4.11

Manual transmission gear ratios:
1st - 3.454
2nd - 1.947
3rd - 1.366
4th - 0.972
5th - 0.738
reverse - 3.333
final drive ratio - 3.90

Note that the WRX uses a 1.1:1 stepdown ratio in the center diff, so the front axle ratio is 3.90 and the rear differential uses a 3.545 (just like the SVX). 3.545x1.1=3.90. The 3.545 ratio is actually an infinite 3.54545454545...etc.

Here's a spec sheet on the Impreza transmissions:

So, to summarize, yes I was wrong on the RS final drive ratios. I was confusing the RS PhaseII EJ25 SOHC final ratios with the Legacy GT PhaseII EJ25 SOHC final ratios. I am known for occasional idiotic lapses in memory.

The 2.5L Legacy GT had a 3.90 final drive on the 5MT and a 4.11 final on the 4EAT.

RS ratios become too short when used on a forced induction 2.5L, you run out of gearing literally before you get a chance to shift.. it can be frustrating. I'll defer to those who have used an RS 5MT transmission in their SVX on whether or not that phenomenon occurs in the SVX or not. It would certainly deliver devastating acceleration, probably devastating to the gearset unless care is taken by the driver to shift smoothly and easily to prevent shockloading the teeth.

New Foresters are 4.11 for the 5MT and 4.444 for the auto, just like the 2.5RS.

The new 2.5L Forester Turbo (2.5XT) WILL use a 4.444 rear ratio with the 5MT according to my source at SOA.
