Gas prices

Keep in mind that the price for gas compared to the 1950's has actually gone down over 100% when you take into account inflation. The biggest difference is the taxes. Here in PA you have a tax of something like $.70 per gallon (about 1/2 what you pay). Not qualified on CA or these states that have the highest prices but I've heard that some of the taxes in these states are well over $1.00 per gallon.

It is about $2.00 here in my area in Washington State. It hasn't budged a cent and we have many of the refineries here. The farther you get away from them, it seem that the price starts to drop.

I'm paying 1.67 per gallon for 93 Octane. If you think that's expensive, try this (Courtesy of Unkle Worn):

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 -- $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 -- $9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 -- $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 -- $10 .00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 -- $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 -- $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 -- $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 -- $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 -- $84.48 per gallon
and this is the REAL KICKER......
Evian water 9 oz for $1.49 -- $21.19 per gallon
21.19 FOR WATER! .......and the buyers don't even know the source.
So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your SVX doesn't run on water,
Scope, or Whiteout, or Heaven forbid, PEPTO BISMOL or NYQUIL!!!!

It's okay, Mike. A lot of my relatives don't know where they came from either.

As they say - "Evian" spelled backwards is "Naive".

We're paying about $1.75 for regular, $1.95 for premium here in Santa Fe. You can save about 15 - 20 cents per gallon at some of the Indian pueblo stations.

Prices are higher in other countries largely due to taxes, not refining or transportation costs. The US has pretty low taxes overall, comparatively.

73.9 cents a liter here with 3.5 cents off per liter = 70.4 cents.

equivalent to CAD$2.66 per gallon

equivalent to USD$1.81 per gallon

Significant Technical Input
I'm glad I decided to buy a house close to work (moving day tentatively 4/15.) I could have bought a bit more house for the same $ on the other side of town, but between gas and spending a couple hours/day traveling I think I did the right thing.

Now instead of being three miles from work I'll only be two miles away. I guess I'll have to dust off my bicycle and start getting the exercise the doc is always griping at me about. Geez, you'd think carrying in a 12 pack once or twice a week would be sufficient.

Don't forget lifting them up to your mouth. That's gotta count for something.

Maybe you should switch to the 24 or 30 packs.

93 octane is generally 1.68 to 1.89 around here, unless you know where to go (I do), so you can get it for 1.54 (I did).

WOW, where did you find 93 at? As high as i went here in CA 92. 91 is the regular one, with the average price of about 2.27 now.

But yeah, I see CA is one of the most expensive places (not counting europe). Oh well, just have to live with that.
