Re: fuel tank size

Hmm... 18.2 US gallons, supposedly 2.3 left when the low fuel light comes on. many have found the gauge to be wildly conservative or just plain inaccurate.

Mine has about 2.3 gallons left when the light comes on, and has about 5 gallons left when the needle hits E.

Mine hits "E" with about 15 gallons in it and goes to full-on-pegged-at-empty (negative 1/4 tank) with about 10 gallons in it. Thank God for the low fuel light. At least it is remotely accurate.

the tank is 70L (no confusion with US/CAN gallons)

2.3 US gallons at 20mpg = 46 miles = about 75km

You might have a bad sensor. A similar thing happened to my Legacy.

Thanks, Matt. I originally suspected that possibility until I started hearing about everyones apparently inaccurate fuel gauges. So are you saying that mine might be worse than normal? Anyone able to tell me how tough a job it is to replace the primary sensor along with a rough idea on cost of part(s)?

Johnny, I think Subarus have a very pessimistic fuel gauge which keeps most of us from running out of fuel. However, yours seems way off. My Legacy had a similar issue where it went from Full to 1/2 Full way too fast. The dealer told me that the sensors are prone to failure and when one fails, the result is just what you described. They replaced both sensors at the same time and I did not have any problems for 4 years. They asked me to bring the car in with less than 1/2 tank of gas (true reading, not as reported by faulty unit), and the replacement was fairly simple.

Do you recall how much that cost you, Matt?

When mine hits E, I have 2 Gallons left and when the light comes on, I have 1.25G left. I re-adjusted my needle.

size???

Mine stays slumped on "E" for the longest time.

It is more useful to use the odo as I start to think about getting fuel at 250-275 miles since my last fill up.

My low fuel warning light has never come on as yet and I am not sure it works but neither have I run out of fuel.

Its pessimistic for sure but intentional??? maybe!!!

Found the receipt but it was all N/C under warranty. I have had the back seat out for another issue and it seemed pretty straight forward to replace them.
