Vacume pipes from transmission

Hi,

I have two pipes coming from the top of my transmissioin. They can be seen from the back of the engine compartment. They look like vacume pipes - but they do not connect to anything!

One of them looks like it used to connect to something as it has an impression of one of those spring clips imbedded into it.

Does anybody know where they are supposed to go? or if they do indeed need to go somewhere?

Those tubes are just vents. They should point down to prevent junk from falling in.
