Re: My break-up with Subaru
Nice car. I love the "basket of snakes" velocity stacks under the plastic. Just beautiful.
In TV commercials it's rare to find that kind of truth in a marketing when they say "ultimate driving machine." It's like they want the engineers to believe it as much as the consumer. BMW films had a lot to do with my acceptance of commercials as a creative medium. Now when I do a toy commercial I try my best to make it "art". No comment on the "truth" thing.

Re: My break-up with Subaru
Haven't really ever been a bmw fan until recently, and with an M5 as your beamer of choice, I can understand. I like the newer beamers and I especially love the m series. It's really clean and sounds like a blast. I have to say though when I do turn to buying a different car as a daily, I'm not gonna get rid of my SVX. Sad to see ya leave the subie family, but glad you're still turnin wrenches and didn't buy a mini van or some garbage... Good choice

Re: My break-up with Subaru
If you don't have an account through Worldpack at work then I suggest you get one. TONS of BMW parts for MUCH MUCH less than even having a jobber account at a dealer will get you.

Re: My break-up with Subaru
congrats on the M5 very nice cars, if your interested check out http://www.bimmerfest.com/
I like the svx my 92 has almost as many options, and technically more power the an 02 330ci. Drive train losses are more though. Not to hijack but this used to be my brothers, he died a couple years ago it is a great car. |

Re: My break-up with Subaru
Congrats on your new purchase Tom, that is one sweet beamer.
We personally owned like 5 beamers and around 15 mercs over the years back home. Also Leb is the land of beamers and mercs, you can almost find anything for these cars, especially mods done only for the German market (we do import parts for Germany). I personally am a fan of Merc's Brabus tuner and Mercs in general. 6 months ago we bought an '04 E320 sedan for my mom, and just a week ago my sister replaced her BMW 323 cabri with another '04 CLK320 coupe. Do not get me wrong I love beamers, but they all do share one problem only: Failing parts always catch you by surprise and leave you stranded on the side of the road. On the other hand, a japanese part failing give you a sign which you can hear or feel, in the beamer it is always a "WTF happened now " issue. Please excuse my honesty and "experienced" opinion in this.

Re: My break-up with Subaru
Yeah I really never considered the SVX on any level near an M5. The SVX is a heavy hog really that is underpowered with a weak tranny. It looks good and corners somewhat well but that is it. Congratulations.

Re: My break-up with Subaru
Tom,
Great car, I wish you many safe and fun miles with this beautiful beast. My friend in Idaho has the same car with lots of after market goodies and after driving it I must say to anyone that has not had the pleasure of driving one, reserve judgment! There is a reason BMW is called the ultimate driving machine. Enjoy!!!!! Sunvalleyray |

Re: My break-up with Subaru
Any mods will be done in replacement of worn out parts... Don't really have a want or need to mod it... its fast, corners well, rides amazing... why would I change it?
I am contemplating finding a 330xi for a DD... Tom |

Re: My break-up with Subaru
Did it come with a free pair of Oakleys or did you have to buck up for those too.
As one who still hasn't gotten the Bmmer thing beyond a 507 or a 850csi it looks to be a very nice ride. Definately too German in the style department but they do drive pretty good. 396 horses doesn't hurt either.
