Transmissiion Resistor Replacement

This is nothing new, but I thought I would share anyway.

I completed the resistor replacement today

For those who do not know, the resistor is located on the fender wall just behind the battery box.
1) Use a 10mm socket and small driver to remove the bottom bolt.
2) Loosen the top bolt; the bracket will fall down because the top bolt bracket hole is slotted.
3) Disconnect the wiring connector.
4) Remove the assembly
5) Use a set of pliers to pull up the metal tabs that hold the resistor into the bracket.
6) Pull the connector forward off of the bracket and the resistor will slide out.
7) Cut the wires to the old resistor as close to it as possible, to leave as much wire to work will as possible.
8) Strip back the wires and tin with solder.
9) Get a replacement resistor http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=850F15RE-ND
10) I had to cut the mounting tabs off of my resistor to make it fit the stock bracket.
11) Align the resistor into the bracket with the connector and make it so the resistor lead aligns with the connector wire.
12) Put some heat shrink tubing over the wire and solder it and shrink the tubing around the connection.
13) Use a piece of Teflon encased or high heat wire to attach to the other side of the resistor and connector (don’t forget the heat shrink tubing to encase the connections.
14) Mark a point half way down the bracket and drill and tap a hole for a screw that will be used to secure the resistor.
15) Install and bend the front tabs of the bracket to hold the resistor (The Resistor is too short to use the back tabs)
16) Put a little lok-tite on the screw and secure the resistor.
17) Re-install into the car.

I know this is small, small bit in the vast amount of work that has to be done to this 17 year old 225,000mile car, but a little at a time, right
